• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently acquired an SL300 (AAH88QCP9JA2AN/Version R01.20.01.000). I tried to program it using Version 14.0 of the CPS, but it gives me an error message saying the codeplug version is not compatible with the software. What's going on?

Radio firmware is too new for that version of CPS. Solution is to update CPS.

That's what I was thinking, although I've never encountered that problem before with the TRBO CPS before. I have various other Motorola DMR radios that I've programmed with a very old (2015) version of the CPS, and have never had any issues with those.

but you just acquired this radio. As with all Motorola radios they can only be used with the equal to or greater software version number that was last used. They can not go backwards. So you programmed all your other radios, no issue, this new radio was programmed with something newer by someone else, you get it and now its looking for that version that was previously used or newer.

This is why before buying another radio I always ask the seller what FW is in it, & what CPS programmed it last. Too new, & I don’t buy it. So nothing newer than FW 2.60.05, & 13.5 CPS.

Ok. Got it. I got the FW version (or at least that's what I think it is) from the label behind the battery. So I'm just guessing that's what the current FW in it is, although now that you mention it, it could have been upgraded since then.

By the way, how do you do show the firmware version on the screen with an SL300?

Gotcha. I got the radio on eBay from a surplus electronics dealer for $140 (which was the cheapest I could find).

Nothing newer than FW2.09 and R16 828
13.5 is OLD
1.01.30 is good firmware for the SL300

I have access to that newer CPS, but for some strange reason my 13.5 CPS has magical properties the newer CPS doesn’t have. So I stay there.
Anything you'd care to share?
Now I'm confused. So what's the latest CPS version I could use with this?
You can use even the newest TRBO CPS but everyone on here will tell you to stay away from it. Don't go past Version 16 build 828

A bit of an update here:
Apparently, this radio has a codeplug in it that is compatible only with CPS 2. It tried CPS version 16.0 and I got the same error message. When I tried it with a copy of CPS 2 that I recently acquired, I was able to both read and write to the radio with no issues.
