I have one!

Did you have to pay for it with your own money? :D

That brings up a curiosity.....

Do you personally - or Uniden Corporate - have a display/collection of Uniden's scanning products going back to the first offerings of those devices?

If such a thing exists, it would be neat to see a picture of it sometime.

Paul will probably sell you a ticket to the Bearcat/Uniden museum in his basement!

The new units are now shipping, with initial reports splattering in. Anyone in East Bay have one, to comment on its reception of the digital trunking systems in use here?

I am also interested in hearing reports about how the radio performs on the radio systems in the Bay Area.

Now that Scanners Unlimited is gone, is there any place to get the radio locally? The only place I can think of is HRO or maybe Fry's...

HRO in Oakland has some. I was there last night playing with the one on display.

I have the 436 and it works beautifully on EBRCS. No issues at all with multipath. It also decodes the new SVRCS perfectly.

Thanks!

Stealthguy, thanks for chiming in! I've been waiting for a local report. I don't currently have a digital scanner, and with the birth of SVRCS I see a 436hp in my future. I'm east of you in the land known as Little Cornfield.

The $64 dollar question for me (or more accurately the $499 plus tax question) is how it will receive the thrice damned Oakland P25 system. Has anyone challenged their new scanner with that system yet? Sometimes I get perfectly clear transmissions with a BCD396T or PSR800, and sometimes one or the other breaks up in mid transmission.

Oakland P25 and his colleagues must have the patience of saints with what they have to deal with. Some of the OPD officers seem to have reached a semi-fatalistic state of acceptance with their radios. I heard one officer arranging a tow for a recovered stolen car on a service channel this week tell the dispatcher "It's a good thing my life doesn't depend on this radio" after she had to repeat herself three times.

I unfortunately can't get down to HRO until next week, so I'd love to hear if anyone else has given their new toy the ultimate simulcast challenge.

Oakland p25 is now loud and clear in Sunnyvale inside of a woodframe home. Standard rubber duck.

Just put mine into service this week and I'm pretty happy with it.

Still too difficult to program IMPO, especially if you have freqs to add that aren't in RR database.

If you are a home patrol type user it's a snap.

Decodes EBRCS better than SCCSO Control 2 with no multipathing.

Only negative is that it's nearly deaf on low band, so CHP is a challenge on the duck with the 436.

Luckily I use a dedicated low band mobile to monitor CHP.

Still working through the wifi setup and the iOS app.

Baby steps.

I am probably going to grab the 436 and the 536 from HRO in Oakland when they get the 436 back in stock. I called them today and they said they should have the 436 back in stock either late this week, early next week.
