Hi folks!

Forgive me if this is an obvious answer, but I've been away from the hobby for a few years and looking to get back in.

I am not always able to be in front of a scanner, but I would like to be able to record activity and see what is going on which frequencies after the fact. I have two goals for this:

1. I have limited time in front of the scanner, so it would be nice to see what is happening on frequencies and when.
2. I'd like to help update the database here with helpful information and data - help identify active frequencies and dead frequencies. IE - This frequency is listed, but has not had traffic in 6 months

I have not purchased any scanners yet, but I have had Unidens in the past.

Anyone have any suggestions for software, or hardware/software combos?

Some Butel products can log transmissions as well as record audio, but I believe the recording capability is limited to the "Pro" versions of the software, and requires a connection from the earphone jack of the radio to the sound card input on the computer.

Win500, which works with many Whistler/GRE/Radio Shack scanners, has a logging and recording function. I've used it, and it works well.

since you do not have a scanner yet, but have used Unidens, look at th scanners that work with Freescan. They have a good logging report tracker, you cxan log, via mp3 files conversation, create directories of what you have heard, then go back when you have time, looking at the log for long transmissions, then play those back..

Freescan is an excellent program. Although it will do logging/recording, I prefer ProScan (it costs some $$$) but it is extremely flexible with it's recording/logging features. It will also allow you to program the scanner. FreeScan may work for a majority of the people (I use it to program the scanner), but I had very specific recording/logging needs that I could only satisfy with ProScan.
