Scanner programming
Do you need software to program a scanner or can I do it manualy ?
I believe in learning to drive on a stick before using an automatic. However, with that said, it took me over 1 week to manually program my first PRO-97. With nearly 1000 frequencies, and about 300 talkgroups, it is a LOT of key punching. And I had it all figured out on paper before I did a thing. Then I wanted to make a simple revision.....
If you're programming a few frequencies, then I'd say it is no big deal. But if you plan to really use your scanner, and especially if it has alpha tags (english phrases to describe each channel), it is well worth the cost of some software and perhaps a cable to get the job done. Also consider that these things do lose their memory sometimes, and you'd hate to have to enter it all again by hand wouldn't you? Or that simple little revision that would take mere minutes on a PC.
Good luck
