The Somerset County Public Safety Feed

This feed is offered through ProScan - You can download the free client software by visiting: http://www.proscan.org

Address: ScanSCNJ.homeip.net
Port: 8105

This is also a Butel EazyStream Feed - you can download the free client software by visiting http://www.butel.nl/easy/eazystream_clientsetup.zip

Address: ScanSCNJ.homeip.net
AudioPort: 8100
DataPort: 8101

This Feed will include the following:
All Fire & EMS Frequencies and Talkgroups in the County including the Franklin Digital TRS
PD North, PD South, PD Central talkgroups on the County TRS
County OEM
Bound Brook PD
State Fire Coordinators
NorthSTAR
SouthSTAR
Atlantic Air 1
MICU Statewide
NJ Task Force 1
NJ State Police Aviation Unit.

This Feed will also focus in on any 'in progress' major events within the central jersey area.

NOTES
There is a daily reboot of the machine at 3:00am, EST.

EazyStream may be phased out, due to the lack of support. I cannot continue to dedicate a computer to EazyStream, I need to consolidate into the other scanning computers. ProScan is able to run flawlessly on the computer that had the eazystream audio chop problem.

All Suggestions and Recommendations are welcomed!

If you are unable to connect to the feed at any time - please PM or Email me with the subject 'SCANSCNJ FEED' - I will look into the problem as soon as possible.

Does this mean I can listen to your scanner for Somerset County Via the web. If it does would you kindly provide with instructions on how to do so. I have downloaded the trial software from Proscan but how do I set it up to listen to your scanner.

Thanks,

James

Mike:

I've connected to your NJ scan several times and really enjoyed it. The Proscan server/client function is outstanding IMO. I've got a live feed for Southern NH running thru Proscan myself.

Thanks - Mike

P.S. I would love to see a Bergen County NJ/Rockland County NY stream on Proscan (my old scanner stomping grounds)

Proscan Upgrade, and Yahoo Group for Notifications

Yahoo Group

I have created a yahoo group for the Somerset County Public Safety Feed. I felt that with the number of users connecting to my feed on a daily basis, that we needed some sort of way to communicate problems, issues, upgrades, outtages, etc to the listeners and with each other.

If you listen to the ScanSCNJ.homeip.net feed, I would highly recommend joining the yahoo group. Here is the group's address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scanscnj/

I will be posting a detailed list on the group of all the frequencies and talkgroups that are being monitored at the time. I will try to keep this list as up to date as possible.

Upgrades this weekend

Thanks to Bob from Proscan.org, several much anticipated updates were included in version 1.7 R4. The good news is that I will now be able to control the scanner remotely AND still have multiple people connected to the feed. This will enable me to change the scan lists on the fly, without having to wait for me to get home to make the changes. Also, and auto-restart feature was added to the clients in case there's a hiccup in the network.

The bad news, everyone will need to update their clients when I do the upgrade. Server 1.7 R4 will not work with older versions of the client, and Client 1.7 R4 won't work with older versions of the server. I have set the time and date of the upgrade, and it will occur:

Friday, May 2nd at 10:30pm

After that time, you will need to upgrade your clients to version 1.7 R4. You can get the client at http://www.proscan.org

Thanks,
Mike

Upgrades to ScanSCNJ.homeip.net Feed

Tonight, the ScanSCNJ feed has been moved off of one of my main computers that runs multiple scanners for Unitrunker and ScanStar Spectrum Commander, and moved over to an HP T5720 Thin Client that will be dedicated to the ScanSCNJ.homeip.net ProScan Feed. This should provide everyone with a cleaner sounding feed with no more audio choppiness.

The HP Thin Client has no moving parts, and uses a minimal amount of electricity (Less than 3 amps @ 12 volts). It runs an AMD Geode NX 1500 processor with 1GB of DDR Ram and 8GB of Flash Hard Drive. This should provide plenty of 'horsepower' to the feed to keep up with the ever increasing amount of listeners.

There is a yahoo group for feed listeners - it is located at ScanSCNJ : ScanSCNJ

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Mike
