Slightly confused by what you wrote. You said it was a Pyramid 20A, then you seemed to say later it was a QJE 50A. I can't find a tie between those 2 statements. Which is the likely culprit and what is the situation with the QJE? It matters to me because I'm using a QJE. THX.

You said that a capacitor was blown in the radio. It's probably gone dead short which is why any new power supply will spit the dummy. Remove the blown capacitor and replace it before you go any further, no point in buying new power supply until you fix the radio.

Your old power supply probably has the regulator gone short circuit too, which puts maximum unregulated voltage into your radio which popped the capacitor.

And be sure to check your radio with a Ohm meter to see IF other components are 'fried'. The "capacitor" may actually be a reverse polarity/over voltage protection diode.

FUSE..... on the radio's power cord.
