Hi Group,

Looking at adding another scanner to my Discone antenna.

Does anyone have anything they would recommend for say a two scanner operation?

Thanks,
Chad

In my experience the Electroline will serve you just as well as the Stridsberg for a lot less money, as long as you don't need to monitor anything below the 54 MHz cutoff of the Electroline. If you don't need the amplification look for an Electroline UDMA with unity gain.

I second that.

Stridsburg is HIGHLY over-priced and over-rated.

I got rid of mine and went to all Electroline.

Fraction of the price, and better performance.

I actually did a comparision between the Electroline and the Stridsburg. There was no difference between the two accept the price.
You can't go wrong with the Electrolines. There is lots of people on this board that uses Electrolines and will probably tell you the same.
Take care

Splitter or amplifier?

Personally, if I was going to use an amplified splitter, then I'd want some control over gain in each band. That way I could get compensation for loss through coax of higher frequencies. Certainly just adding an unamplified splitter for 4 receivers is more loss than most can handle. But for 2 scanners, I'd just get a cable TV splitter with good specs as shown. That's what I'm using with a discone and 2 scanners and have no problem with signal level (I monitor lots of stuff in the 800 MHz band).

Thanks Group!

Great Ideas and thanks for the links! Never thought about a regular tv splitter, might just try that before I order something off eBay.

Thanks Again,
Chad

You are still losing half your signal with an unamplified splitter, but if you are in an urban
area it may not be a problem. It may actually HELP.

I don't think I've paid over $20 for any of my Electrolines off of FleaBay.

Gentlemen,

Other than the link to the Ebay seller, posted by "mancow" and repeated below,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTROLINE-4-PO...QQcmdZViewItem

is anyone aware of a retailer/seller of Electroline products in the States, or Canada?

Thanks in advance.
Just do a Google search on "electroline cable amplifier" or something similar. A quick search came up with the following:

www.cabletvamps.com
www.mjsales.net
www.dropamp.com
http://www.electroline.com/en/products/drop_amplifiers/index.html

I just found this on the one site www. cabletvamps. Thought I would copy it to here, from previous post alot of members mount it close to the scanners. Here is what they show.Outdoor Antenna Setup: Put an amplifier as close as possible to where the antenna wire comes into the house (to prevent signal degradation), and then split the cable off to various TVs throughout the house. Just an FYI Hoser

Most people will never notice 3 to 4 dB of loss.

Dan, I guess it would depend on what and how you were going to set things up. Are you going to use 1 outside antenna or more? Is it a broadband or narrowband antenna you want to use? Its all in relation to what you want and monitor.........Hoser
