I know Moto radios have funny names for different lines. Astro, Jedi, Cosmo, Kramer, etc. On my SI, between the model #, & the ser #, it says FACTORY ID CROSS. Wonder what that stands for?
In the early 2000’s I acquired a minty Saber SI that I used for years on our 4.1 system. It was a great radio and I thought it had fantastic audio compared to the Astro Saber, although no digital.Sure do!
Here's a side-by-side with an Astro Saber
No, the SSE5000 top display is orange. This (the top display in orange) I have to see. Perhaps you're thinking of the VX-537?
Are you telling me the guy with SSE5000 in his user name and a picture of two SSE5000’s doesn’t know this?Would you mind upload a photo of this?
I’ve seen a lot of SSE5000’s and they all had orange backlights. As the saying goes "your mileage may vary". For all I know, you may have a development model to be able to say the top display backlighting was orange.
Yeah, agreed. I handled them and definitely orange backlight.I’ve seen a lot of SSE5000’s and they all had orange backlights.

Mine has "CROSS" as well:
Maybe because it was a cross between a Saber, & a Jedi. Looking at your tag, & mine, they were built in the same month.Mine has "CROSS" as well:
I held this radio at Dayton as well. The Si was a cool form factor.I saw one many years ago. The guy put a low split UHF board in it.

Then /\/\otorola swept in and bought up Vertex. The only reason for the whole SSE project was the job didn’t want to buy all new accessories for a new batch of radios.
Then vertex swooped in with a below market price radio and accessories and the rest is history.
Here in Los Angeles, LAFD uses a 17 channel conventional analog simulcast 800MHz system. I'd love to program my Si to monitor it. My APX is cool, but there's something cool about monitoring analog with a purely analog radio with no DSP.
