All morning long St Louis FD units have been going by fire alarm headquarters to have their radios reprogrammed. Battalion Chiefs also. Does anyone have an idea as to what new TG's they might be getting?

They've been testing on 10232 the last week, I think it may be EMS. Abbott was heard on it the other day, on the wrong channel, per dispatch.

Best thing to do is open up your scanner to hear all talkgroups and help us all figure it out.

Also, hearing testing this morning on the 8CALL/8TAC repeaters 851.0125 (CSQ for some reason) and 851.5125 156.7 PL

I know, and it's pretty obvious, that Abbott is helping the city with EMS coverage. Usually 4 to 5 trucks. Medic One has 1 to 2 in the mix. Maybe they will get their own channel, who knows. I already have my scanners set up for SEARCH mode. I'll let you know if I hear something.

I heard a high pitched tone on 10232 earlier, that was it.

EMS and Fire Dispatch appear to be normal right now.

Yes, they contact abbott to sit at fire stations instead of one of their Medic units. It is possible they can call Abbott directly for extra units, if available, but those units will not have any city radios. (Last I knew)

The Abbott and Medic One units assigned to the city have handheld radios provided by the city and are dispatched directly by SLFD EMS dispatcher on TG 10201. Their on air radio number relates to the engine house they are assigned to.

OK. the tone I keep hearing on 10232 is just my darn unication pager, disregard that. It just seems now that twice in the last week, that Abbott had their radio on the new channel, and dispatch both times told them they were on the wrong channel.

So, it's possible the updates have been made to the portables and that is still a future use channel.

I don't remember that the Abbott number, like 106, etc, relating to the station (it very well may), but I know that is what is used in the AMR/Abbott CAD system they use with their "LOGIS" handheld devices. Abbott St Louis itself does not use any radio system (normally) and some units only have hospital channels. While the EMS unit numbers on air may be the same every day, the actual ambulance used every day could be a different vehcile (3 digit # or 5 digit VIN on the vehicle)

(Note: I worked dispatch, for the company for 2 years)

I do NOT have any firsthand knowledge of this, but it could be that they are loading encryption keys into the radios. That would not necessarily mean they would go encrypted, but it could give the SLFD access to encrypted talkgroups that they don't currently have access to. Just a thought

The Kansas City Fire Department similarly called in units to the IT department, a few at a time. Over the radio, they mentioned it was to update their passwords. This action was taken after Jackson County, where our county is located, was hit with ransomware. I was also curious if they were setting the radios for encryption.

I heard another Abbott unit this morning on 10231, and dispatch said you are on "Fire Main", switch to EMS Dispatch. This is also a new talkgroup, but not sure if it is actually going to be "Fire Main"

I'm thinking that maybe they will add a Fire Main and maybe an EMS main rather than continue using dispatch as both. I'll keep watching here to see what I need to program into my Unication

Several months ago, KCFD radios were reprogrammed and keyloaded with encryption keys, however, they don't have any plans to go fully encrypted on the A-1 primary and Ops talkgroups. According to the MARRS Management Committe at MARC, they added the encryption capability so personnel can use the encrypted REG COM talkgroups and for interoperability purposes (i.e. if they run a call with Gladstone or CJC Fire both of which are encrypted).

I have the two scanners that I use in SEARCH mode and have not heard anything on those TG's. I have now programmed them in and activated an alert tone to hopefully alert me.

Is what you hear complete conversations or just a simple single transmission with no reply?

I am hearing traffic from NPS in the ONSR TG 3101 and one officer/ranger stated he did not get a response on 'Ozark All'. I checked the MOSWIN DB and did not find that. Could they also use federal VHF channels down that way?

Been monitoring both TG's throughout the day. I have not heard anything on them. Last night I did hear on very quick radio transmission but could not tell who it was. I will keep listening.

10231...tonight I heard SLFD tell a fire company to switch to fire dispatch because they were on FIRE MAIN. I am now guessing that the city will start using a second channel for regular comms similar to SLATER. This will leave the city's dispatch channel dedicated for dispatch only.

I am not sure about 10232 but I have heard the same for EMS. Maybe they will try the same.

I have not been listening like I was before, since I changed jobs, but has there been any actual changes?

Once in a while at home, I'll hear something, but that's it.
