No you really can't unless someone who programs can tell you.Volfirefighter said:A think I can shed a little light on this discussion. Over a year ago, the county issued digital radios (portables) to every police, fire, and EMS vehicle in the county. They all have the same talkgroups on the Canton/Stark TRS system:
SNIP
All agencies monitor countywide and contact Starcomm on this talkgroup if necessary. We then get permission to use one of the other talkgroups if we have need for it on an event where multiple agencies must communicate. I do not know the corosponding DEC or HEX IDs for the talkgroups. Any way I can find out without keying up one of the radios?
But there is always the option of having a logging program running... or a 396T in search and store mode; and then playing the "dumb" radio operator. Oops did not know I was X channel, thought I was on this one. And then doing a quick key up 5 seconds going through each channel, yes the radio id will flash, but you're "dumb" so it will be ignored or missed and then go back to the correct channel and read the logs later. Just remember the order you did the key ups and viola.
Or you could ask permission to do a quick run through radio check and coverage or channels for "emergency" purposes.
Or just do it and beg forgiveness afterwards... during an event it probably won't be noticed. When my agency gets their 800 MHz portables that's what I'll do, the quick run through but nobody is monitoring ID's or have those consoles in my area. ID' are in the database already just to make sure their correct.
