Although I don't know for sure, it's probably VDOT. The other two talkgroups listed for them are 5029 and 5051.

Site 127 is active (unknown location). 1-4 bars signal strength near Fredericksburg. Current control channel is 152.5175. I don't have voice frequencies yet. Only talkgroup seen so far is VSP Richmond 2 (3). I've added it to the database.

Unless there is a completely new tower location, maybe the tower between Orange and Gordonsville? That's the only known tower I can find that I likely wouldn't be able to receive.

I heard some comms on 5060 too. Warrenton calling Marshall.

5060 is VDOT.... I can't remember what was said but they referenced it one day over the air as a VDOT TG.

I just heard TG 5060 on Fork Mtn ... the only voice I heard was "on TAC 7" then nothing else ...

any ideas?

Makes sense, VDOT District 7 is located in Culpeper.

As for the 127 tower, is there actually a site between Gordonsville & Orange? I would think that either Louisa (Gum Spring) or Fork Mountain would cover that area. I do think that there's supposed to be a mountaintop site just south of Front Royal, and Independent Hill seems to be another logical possibility. I wonder what might fill in a coverage hole between Thornburg and Warsaw. It gets pretty quiet in parts of King George & Westmoreland.

Yes, at 38.187917°N 78.157500°W. For KIC367, WPMP761, WPMP845, WPMR298 and WQBY588.

I would think that either Louisa (Gum Spring) or Fork Mountain would cover that area.
True, but KIC367 is also at Fork Mountain.

That would be Hogback Mountain. If it was either of those I would most likely be receiving it, especially Independent Hill. I can receive the Fork Mountain site just fine.

Hmmm...maybe Culpeper or somewhere east of Fredericksburg, then. The hunt is on...

Update on what I've heard on site 127...

The only voice channel in current use is 158.7525. This frequency is licensed all over the state, so I guess the FCC DB isn't going to be much help in figuring out where 127 is. Still only seeing one talkgroup active--VSP Richmond 2 (3).

I heard some radio techs talking today. Mentioned two sites that didn't make frequency- Essex for power, Richmond for packets.

It could possibly be this site in King George county.

http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseLocSum.jsp?licKey=2953820

A couple days ago, it was showing a connection to sites 104 (Warsaw) and 106 (Thornburg) using Pro96Com and a PSR-600.

Just checked a few minutes ago with Pro96Com, and it is no longer showing any adjacent sites, but the tower status still says connected. It's also showing voice/data activity on TGs 1/3.

I dont know if this has been discussed, so my apologies, but the buzz HAD been for a completely new tower location in a location up in that area, known in VSP circles as the "Edgehill" site. I don't know if there's an area up there called Edgehill, but I would almost look for Site 127 and the new tower to be one in the same.
We, incidentally, have an "Edgehill" here in Area 7, but evidently they have one in the up yonder area as well...

Any thoughts from the listeners up in King George or thereabouts?

What are you using for an antenna?

Maybe it's the one in Essex that was mentioned.

I am just using the stock rubber antenna.
But i have to place it in a certain position in my room just to get a signal.
I can get this new 127 site but I can not get the Thornburg or the Fork Mountain site.

Thanks MOTORHEAD3902 ....

After plotting the LAT/LON on Microsoft Streets & Trips, then doing a search on EDGEHILL, they do appear to be within about a mile and a half of each other according to Microsoft...

It would sure make sense. The route 3 corridor is dead as a doornail from 301 quite a ways east, and ditto for Westmoreland Co. It's also an area where VSP might often find itself alone on the tower, or maybe sharing it with rangers at Westmoreland State Park. The northern neck is pretty strange. Warsaw seems to radiate strongly to the east or southeast, Burgess doesn't seem to cover much at all, and KG/Westmoreland seemed hopeless before the appearance of this site. I'd love to see a map of their antenna patterns.

the next question is....what's the news on Waverly?

Near as I have been able to tell, by force-affiliating my mobile radio to the different sites in the PG/Sussex area, Waverly isn't handling voice tfc...not yet, anyways.

what i mean to say is, I cant make my mobile radio "see" the Waverly towetr, which it should given my location. It has no problem with Petrsburg, Emporia, Franklin, and sometimes SouthHill, Rumford, SPHQ, and Leigh Mtn.
