From my house I can pick up 2 very strong control channels for the CSP for 2 different troops. The question is do i need to have them both programmed to hear all the talk groups for those 2 Troops or will one control channel lock to all TG in the statewide system.

all talkgroups are not broadcast on all sites. What you can hear depends on what is allowed on that site and if there is a radio affiliated on the TG

If you are using the scanner stationary, don't bother with the fill in sites (9, 10, 11, 12, 15). There will be nothing to hear there that is not broadcast on the main site for that area.
You will consistantly receive Troop L from the 4B16-3 Site (858.4875). You should also always get Troop B on it, although it is possible that a Troop B radio may not be affiliated to that Site.

What are you looking for that you can't get? If you just want everything, monitor. That will be the best way to tell what you will hear. The way the system works, if no one is on a specific talkgroup in that area, the traffic does not get broadcast on that Site. The result is that you may hear Troop H some days and not hear it others. Some don't allow a TG. That is harder to figure out and is done by monitoring.

he might be picking up the troop a-l simulcast in Wolcott. Which shares a site with Troop H simulcast. The a-l one is good because you can pick several service areas on that : )
