How much do trees & leaves affect radio reception?

Over the last year or so, I've lost some reception from the east and several closeby neighbors have very large leafy trees to my east radio horizon.

Granted, my antenna is in my attic but I even then I used to hear stuff in the W386 warning area but lately I'm hearing nothing from them.
