It looks like the callsign change might have something to do with the way ADSB-X is decoding oceanic data ? You'll notice civilian flights will also change from a 3 letter to 2 letter code in these areas.

Saw that while tracking a T-38 that took off from Ft Campbell and landed in Arlington. 50,000 plus feet, amazing!
Looks like he's headed back to land same place he took off from, the Naval Air Station at Trapnell Field.

On their route it will be New York at 44N40W then Gander at 45N50W, then to Gander VHF approaching RAFIN. That was their last revised route clearance. Next position report at 35W eta 2340Z is still with Santa Maria 6628.
