1500-Hearing them too. Only caught the "01" part of the callsign. L/C here. Heard similar sounding voice about 15 mins ago on ZNY Yardley (290.2). Didn't catch callsign there either. Now QSY to ZDC Linden (322.55). Callsigns sounds like VOLVO?? Maybe they were up in New England or maybe offshore and are now heading back to Barksdale? Now w/ZDC Montebello (284.7) Reporting 3-mile separation at FL250-FL260. They are not communicating much w/controllers--just quick check-in & check out. At 1523 lost them after Montebello.

It's definitely FIRST. Have heard as such and seen it on ADS-B.

Okay thanks. I'm still hearing FIST, must be the way you guys pronounce it down there.

The two flights that came up to Griffiss got me looking into the 2 letter ADS-B idents the 71 FTS T-38 use. Looking back over the last few months I've seen these and matched them up with the following callsigns. So far from what I've seen all the 2 letter idents use the first and last letter of the callsign.

Recent active 71FTS T-38s. Probably not complete, anyone know how many T-38s they have ?

DE = DUDE
DO = DRAGGO (Arlington Flyover)
DR = DAGGER
HC = HECTIC (rare)
MG = MIG
MN = MARLIN
MR = MILLER
MO = MICRO* (rare)
PA = PANAMA (travel)
PS = PACOS* (rare)
RH = ROACH* (rare)
RY = RUBY
SG = SUNDOG
TA = TONGA
VA = VODKA
FT = FIRST (travel)

* - MICRO, PACOS, ROACH are not in Ron's callsign list. Caution - as heard by Canadian ears.

Any corrections or additions always appreciated.

Air,

Good stuff. Will add in Micro, & Roach into my list. I've never heard them use those calls. I think your PACOS is actually PECOS which I have heard them use.

I have unique ICAO identifiers for 13 71st FS T-38s.

Callsign is VALVO 01/02. Looks like they were out of Minot AFB.

Thanks. I just noticed another one popped up as I was typing the last message. RY = RUBY. You have RUBY, as well as MILLER listed as 94FS F-22 callsigns. Do they share them ? Also I don't see HECTIC on your list either.

Air,
I have unique ICAO identifiers for 13 71st FS T-38s.
I think number was around 16 but not sure.. The 71st FTS started with 6 Holloman T-38's in 2015.
Supposed to be 17 total according to this old article. 71st FTS 'Ironmen' return to Langley > Air Combat Command > Article Display (af.mil)
Hopefully next year they will finally get those 16 T-38's from Eglin
along with their 31 F-22's.. Will keep things much busier in our area and up North :)

Timing for F-22 unit move to Langley still uncertain (msn.com)

Several freq changes for ZNY from the NFDD for October 9 effective immediately:

At the Barnegat NJ RCAG:
132.15 [LOW/HIGH DISCRETE] is deleted
133.5 [LOW/HIGH] is added. Both will appear on charts

At the Barnstable MA RCAG:
121.125 [HIGH] is added but is not to be shown on charts
135.8 [HIGH OCEANIC] is deleted
381.6 [HIGH OCEANIC] is deleted. Neither high oceanic freq was charted.

At the Elk Mountain PA RCAG:
290.4 [LOW] is deleted (was not charted)
326.2 [LOW] is added and is charted
363.2 [LOW DISCRETE] is deleted (it had been charted)

At the Flint Hill PA RCAG:
307.05 [LOW] is added (not charted)
339.8 [LOW] is deleted (had not been charted)

At the State College PA RCAG:
118.55 [LOW] is added but is not charted.

The NFDD doesn't include sector names, only RCAGs. [Edit: forgot to add that I checked the notam site but found no entries for ZNY comms.]

132.15 is the old oceanic frequency which changed to 133.5 many years ago. Glad it only took them a "few" years to acknowledge the change.

132.15 was shifted to North Mountain as shown below

North Mountain, PA RCAG

Frequency License Type Tone Alpha Tag Description Mode Tag
121.32500 BM ZNY49 SFK-H Sector 49 Stoneyfork High AM Aircraft
128.57500 BM ZNY75 MIP-H Sector 75 Milton High AM Aircraft
132.15000 BM ZNY74 BWZ-L Sector 74 Broadway Low AM Aircraft

Thanks for posting. Some observations.

This change took effect well over 10 years ago.

118.550 has been listed in the ZNY SOP since at least 2006.

135.800 was switched to a ZBW frequency years ago. 121.125 has been around for a long time as well, I've heard them use it as a backup for 133.500 on occasion.

Good to see the FAA is on top of keeping the charts updated. :rolleyes:

I can't find any reference to 381.600 in either the RR Database or ZNY SOP (going back 15 years).

290.400 and 363.200 are listed as a current frequencies so the change to 326.200 might be legit ?

Back to the future on this one. The RR Database shows 339.800 as current but the ZNY SOP (2012) shows the frequency as 307.05.

381.6 shows formerly at Ship Bottom NJ
