I don't think it ever got mentioned over the weekend but the Guard Dog CAP fighter mission was manned by F-22As of the 27th Fighter Squadron at Langley. Two proofs of that...Squadron Ops was Eagle Ops on 341.8 and Brian caught a tail number of 058 which has to be 03-4058 assigned to the 27th. Of the KC-135 tankers during the mission, there was one abort by TANKER 08 and that was replaced by the Alert Tanker - SKATER 07 - from the 108th ARW at McGuire.

Ref Below: Yeah, I noticed that Brian but just one was enough to ID the unit. 03-4060 also equates to the 27th.
******************************************
I'm not sure which board I saw it on over the weekend about a MACE 91 flight to Andrews. There was speculation over which unit it belonged to since several units use that callsign. MACE 91 departed Andrews w/TRACON @1425 on 257.2, was handed off to TRACON freq 343.7 to continue his climb and then to ZDC-Montebello 284.7 for this flight plan route. He eventually was cleared to FL 260, got there and due to weather, requested to descend to FL 220. He was cleared to that FL and cleared "direct MMT." [MMT=McEntire JNGB] That should give us his affiliation with the 157th Fighter Squadron SC-ANG at McEntire JNGB SC. He appeared to be a single ship flight since there was no associated interflight freq.

At 1446, DECEE 91 [female] (KC-135R, 62-3556, 756th ARS AFRC Andrews) calls LIBERATOR to report 20 minutes out, A-1 and will land with 43K on the fuel. She adds that their departure from Kelly Field (San Antonio TX) was at 1732Z...378.1 (w/Potomac TRACON-ADW Approach 119.3 at 1458...to ADW Tower to land runway 1R at 1502)

2115- Deuce 16 (KC-10A 76/78th ARS AFRC McGuire AFB NJ) & Royal 50 (C-17, Dover) on AR 636 primary (238.9). Deuce 16 informs 50 that Giantkiller has cleared them to break off whenever they are ready. 50 heads back to Dover after they seperate. 16 could be one of the Team KC-10s, from McGuire AFB NJ.

2125- Deuce 16 w/ZDC (120.975) descending from 24,000ft to 8,000ft.

Looks like the Royal 50 callsign is being used as a training callsign. At different times I've heard them doing navigational flights, pattern work and now AAR practice.

John B--Heads Up

At 0810 EST had Copper 4 (KC-135R 161st ARG, AZ ANG Phoenix) on HF 8831.0 w/Gander. Looks like he is on his way to Bangor ME for fuel stop.
TNX for heads up .... was out most of day, so never caught him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tin - tnx for note on CHALK. And SLIDE was definitely SLIDE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Anyone have ISS freq 145.800 dialed in for regular scanning? Over the past 3-4 days I've heard weird traffic - sounds like dueling callsigns - FM squelch makes it very difficult to understand. I've heard:

November 2 Radio Japan
WD2P
1 Mike Delta
Fox November 32
Fox November 30
Kilo 2 or Kilowatt 2
Mike Oscar

Only sensible traffic I've heard is "I need your grid again."

I have no idea if this has anything to do with the ISS.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And did you guys hear the stink over the RAF possibly using RC-135s to cover their Nimrod missions??
RAF forced to borrow US planes
MISC stuff from 02/04/08
I got through my CD and CHECK -IN freqs rather fast tonight and was hoping to sift through the days UHF ZDC traffic. Unfortunately the PC that was recording this apparently restarted early in the day and the only ZDC traffic I had was as follows:
09:16 - 09:22 354.15 FLYER flight up with ZDC @ 14 thousand. Mile & 1/2 trail. Nonstandard Formation
Moving on. From the VQ-4 scanner I did not show any activity from them. At least not until about 1900 when I transferred the days files to the laptop. But I did get the following few transmissions on 311.0. The first of which struck me as odd. I guess he meant to be on another freq.
16:37:19 311.0 "HUNTRESS radio, HUNTRESS radio. KERIG 20 . How copy? Over."
(That is a best guess for spelling of Callsign. Pronunciation should be close.)
Had three transmissions from them all the same. Did not appear that contact was made.
Had same comms going out on 364.2 from 16:38 till 16:40. Again it was not apparent to me that contact was made.
01:03:15 139.7 had BLACKJACK 1 up with HUNTRESS for radio check
17:45:33 311.0 "BACKY 11 Flight lets go AR primary 228.0 how copy?"
I had a chance yesterday to listen to the CAP activity from over the Super Bowl in Phoenix and found many similarities to our own Guard Dog CAP. The major exception was that they also had a flock of Customs aircraft and helicopters working along with the F-16s. It was good planning because they were definitely needed, especially during one intercept and escort of a small Cessna that had violated the TFR. They mentioned the Cessna landing at Buckeye Airfield - which I understand is a small, private airport in the area. The fighters and the OMAHA Customs aircraft repeated the registration of the Cessna several times but it doesn't seem to compute in the FAA listings. (N4938G)
They used a pair of F-16s from the 162nd FW at Davis-Monthan - callsigns BLUTO 35 and 36. TANKERS 21 and 22 were the KC-135s but none of the clearance freqs were on the recording so I don't know where they were from. The NORAD controller from WADS used the usual BIGFOOT callsign and their primary freq was 271.0. Boom freq was 277.35 as it has been here recently. There were more similarities than differences between that CAP and Guard Dog CAPs. It was a great recording with a loud and clear BIGFOOT controller.
(I later learned TANKER 21 was from the 197th ARS of the AZ-ANG and TANKER 22 might have been from the 465th ARS at Tinker)
Well this is interesting. Propagation is good tonight, so I've been able to listen to some of the 380mhz trunked systems including Andrews. A new talkgroup I heard is 17. It sounded like a patch to me and when I heard "command" I thought it might be for the fire department.
It's actually a patch from, 378.1. I couldn't get my mil air bank activated fast enough to catch the last flight. But now EVAC-77170 is calling. I can hear the female (Griffin Command) on the ground clearly, but EVAC has the usual analog>digital patch sound.
Maybe this is part of the reason for their comm problems.
And as EVAC passes an update to his status, I've lost the TRS control channel.
yes, JR FM .... and from what someone posted on another list it may simply be hams using grid square references. Hence the FN32 & FN30. So probably just a co-inky-dink they are on that freq.
OK John. I'll leave it plugged in a while and see what I get. It's recording on the R-8500. Who knows. Might even catch something from the ISS. I have never tried to pick them up anyway.
I heard the Shuttle last June on 259.7, their air to ground freq. Heard them 4 minutes after liftoff when they reported MECO, main engine cutoff, so they were already at a pretty good altitude. Pretty good signal in WV.
EDIT - corrected month to June
