And Tin, REF the OK ANG guys. I have a guy I work within that is in the DC ANG. Maint Type. I'll try to catch him tonight and put a bug in his ear and see if he knows why they are here or can find out for us.

Okay, thanks JR.

1928: OPEC 01 with BATON 20 (EC-130J, 92-1933, 193rd SOW PA-ANG Harrisburg) meet up on AR freq and discuss upcoming mission. OPEC 01 says he's waiting for BATON 20 and 20 replies that he's just leaving Harrisburg so it'll be a bit...295.8
That's a strange suffix for the OPEC tanker. I wonder if he has the 305th AMW Commander on board?

TFR's in place over Harrisburg & Thurmont, MD

There are TFR's in place over Harrisburg, PA and also at Thurmont MD. I know there will be a CAP over Thurmont, but will there be a CAP over Harrisburg? I guess what I'm trying to get at is, are there automatically CAP's in place when a TFR is in effect?

No, generally, if the area covered in the TFR is only up to 3,000 feet and a 3 mile radius, you can bet there won't be a CAP. CAP areas always cover everything up to 18,000 feet and a radius of 10 miles. Even then, there are times they don't put aircraft overhead. For instance, the one currently listed for Harrisburg will not result in a CAP. The one for Thurmont will.

IAD goes PAT-crazy

Hi guys,

This week, Monday and today have seen quite a bit of PAT activity at IAD, but unfortunately I missed reading off the majority of the aircraft due bad timing. However still bagged a new C-12 frame today so all was not lost!

All either on IAD TWR East or West 120.100/128.425 respectively:

02.07.2008

PAT 108 - C-12 83-24146 lands rwy 1R
PAT 116 - lands rwy 1L
PAT 566 - C-26B 91-0503 lands rwy 1L
PAT 094 - C-26B departs rwy 30
PAT 637 - UC-35 departs rwy 1R

02.04.2008

PAT 241 - departs rwy 19L
PAT 575 - C-23B+ departs rwy 19L
PAT 725 - C-26B 91-0511 lands rwy 19R
FREEDOM 07 - UH-72A 07-2007 lands J1 at Signature Flight Support
PAT 677 - C-12 84-0153 lands rwy 1L
also C-12 84-0160

Nice to see this level of traffic at my home field!

"The reality is we are fighting two wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the F-22 has not performed a single mission in either theater," (Secretary of Defense Robert) Gates said. That's the kind of statement that sends generals up the wall — not only because it's true, but because it's the Secretary of Defense who's saying it.

Guys,

Did a web search on US Navy/Binghamtron Ny. Only thing that sounds sem i-logical is that there are couple of Defense Contractors in that area, Lockheed Martin being one of them.

Maybe these flights are carrying engineers, software types, etc supporting some programs underway at Pax River.

Probably for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) reps from
DCMA Lockheed Martin Owego to fly back and forth to monitor contract compliance.

If I were a betting man, I would guess that its related to this project -

Navy provides update on presidential helicopter program

By My-Ly Nguyen
Press & Sun-Bulletin

The second phase of the VH-71 presidential helicopter program is being restructured, but the impact on program costs and schedules are undetermined at this time, the U.S. Navy said.
The Navy said the program, also called Marine One, has been on a "high-risk" and fast-paced schedule since the contract was awarded in January 2005 to a Lockheed Martin-managed team also made up of AgustaWestland and Bell Helicopter Textron. Locally, work on the program is being performed at Lockheed's systems integration plant in Owego.
"While there were some requirement misunderstandings early in the program, the program office and Lockheed Martin Systems Integration, Owego, have closed the gap, are in agreement on the contract requirements and have made significant progress toward initial operational capability," the Navy said in a press statement.
Lockheed directed questions about a Jan. 12 meeting to discuss the program to government officials. The Navy did not respond to an inquiry about the meeting.
Lockheed added that the first two VH-71 helicopters built for the president have entered the flight test phase with the Navy and Marine Corps at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md.
The Increment One aircraft, for the initial phase of the program, are on track to "meet or exceed performance requirements for airspeed and range," the Navy said.
All nine Increment One helicopters, including test vehicles and production aircraft, are in various stages of build or delivery, the Navy said.
Recently published reports in the Wall Street Journal and some trade publications have said the program could be in trouble because of structural modifications, engineering challenges and delays that threaten to push the $6.1 billion contract billions of dollars over budget. However, the reports cited anonymous sources.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that officials have considered asking United Technologies Corp.'s Sikorsky helicopter unit to step in with a version of its S-92 helicopter.
Sikorsky spokesman Paul Jackson said the company cannot comment on what the Navy may choose or not choose to do.

Mark

I had more on it but most of it was just altitude changes and such. Figured no sense in logging that mess.

Nice pic Mark. I want his antennas.

14:05: 369.9 SHADOW 67 up with PAX CHECK-IN. I did not catch SHADOW 67 but CHECK-IN confirmed he would be up in about an hour and gave him a squawk. Kinda sounds like SHADOW 67 is looking to work the test areas but unsure as yet.
14:55: 260.9 AERO 05 flight checking in with HUNTRESS AS FRAGGED. Wants to hit the Tanker for a Boom check. (Pretty sure it's AERO anyway)
14:47: 350.25 AERO 05 now up GUARD DOG trying to check in. Looking for clearance into the CAP. Confirms there are no Tankers for the CAP right now.
15:06: I forgot I had the speakers off for that scanner but have activity on the NJ ANG freqs 347.2 & 138.425
15:07: 260.9 TANKER 01 Established in the area. Now up with POTOMAC on 350.25
15:12: AEROs looking for the TANKER now. #2 is first up.

3 X HMX1 In-bound over the channel....Expect M1 airborn soon

P.S. Last weekend while coming back from Harpers Ferry, Wv...I caught a C-5 inbound to Martinsburg...thinking the runway extension must be complete...will have to check on it.

Also....Don't forget to check Hagerstown (HGR) today for inbound "other VIP" flights

Edit: I'm assuming everyone knows there is a TFR over Thurmont this weekend

Hi,

Caught the following on the way home just now...

1931Z 118.675 PT A/D - AIR FORCE ONE - cleared to 12000' dir AML dir ADW arrival QSY PT APP 119.850 dir DCA dir ADW visual rwy 1L.
1948Z 118.675 PT A/D - SAM 50050 - dir WZZRD rejoin the ELDEE2 arrival
1950Z 284.700 ZDC-Montebello - ARROW 05 - FL300 for FL250 cleared dir National (DCA) headed for the CAP.
1957Z 395.100 BATON Ops - BATON 74 - 20 mins. out A1 19K fuel 22 pax req. truck, another BATON (could not hear flight #) is about 15 mins. behind us.

2007Z 350.250 PT GUARD DOG - TANKR 01 - req. block FL230-250 for AR ops.
2010Z 260.900 PT HUNTRESS - ARROW 05 - mention of Eglin up here for a minute from ARROW 06; cleared for contact w/TANKR 01 req. topoff receives 13. 06 is cleared in @ 2017Z.
2023Z 260.900 PT HUNTRESS - ARROW 06 - showing as not fully topped off can I get another hit? ARROW 06 holding off, might have an aircraft problem, hold on. ARROW 06 to ARROW 05 - request "MAN AUX".
2024Z 260.900 PT HUNTRESS - ARROW 06 - evidently nothing wrong as TANKR 01 clears ARROW 06 to refuel. They keep IDing to each other as AUX 05/06 when talking IP and then refer to themselves as AUX 1/2. ARROW 06 has no luck on right external.
2027Z 260.900 PT HUNTRESS - ARROW 06 at FL220 ARROW 05 at FL210 timber sour.

2100Z 350.250 PT GUARD DOG - TANKR 01 - mentions good rx check on "32.52", then mentions "is there another frequency you want us to go to?"
