For 135.525

A week or 2 ago I think it was Mike brought up the subject of the users for 135.525. I keep it in a recording scanner in case a CAP goes hot. I caught the following Sunday:
02/24/08 11:21:39 135.525000 AM WASHINGTON FLIGHT WATCH MARLIN 62 WML62. Overhead Norfolk.

So this MARLIN 62 called WASHINGTON FLIGHT WATCH on this freq. And he was Overhead Norfolk. He was in 2 way comms with someone but I can't confirm that it was WFW that was the 2nd party.

Just figured I would throw that out. If I hear anything else like this I will advise. This was the first I had ever heard an aircraft call WFW. If it was WFW he ended up talking to.

Copy Tony. Just keep in mind this is the first and only instance of this I have had so far. I'll pay closer attention to my recorded audio. I can say that the freq seems to be seldom used though. For example today I have not had 1 single hit on the freq.

Re: 135.525

Hi JR,

I'd have to search the II Thread, but I remember hearing the controller side of Richmond area TRACON traffic on 135.525 from the Reston area sometime in early to mid 2007, so it looks as though 135.525 is used for multiple purposes given this, the GD usage, and now your post here.

The HAWK was up today again.
0920 Fairly certain what I heard was CROOK-21 with ZDC-Hagerstown, shortly after that 267.35 went active encrypted.
1332 CROOK-21 descending into Hagerstown
1343 CROOK-21 joins the localizer
1355 Switches to HGR tower. 120.3
267.35 was encrypted all day, generally active until 1120. Later active at 1547, burst of encryption as late as 1700ish.

Also with ZDC-Hagerstown
0928 FUZZY-11
1016 ARMY-50098 > 133.65 ZDC-Blue Ridge
1227 PAT-851 >124.4 ZOB-Blue Knob low
1237 MARINE-206
1248 PAT-951 FL110 Heading 360
1401 NAVY-301 to Johnstown and wants a practice approach too.
1500 JENA-120 climbing out from 9 to 14k
1530 JUSTICE-43 climbing. Handed to 133.975 ZDC-Potomac. Commercial,military, govt?

1941: E-6B, 163918, VQ-4 up from Patuxent. Climbing and heading east.
1947: 918 is talking to maintenance but he's very difficult to copy. He said something about being back at 10:30-11:00 to pick something/somebody up and thanks them for all their help...310.15 (Currently still only at 11,000 feet...now heading northeast at 35 degrees)
1951: 163918 is over Waterloo (ATR) and still flying at only 11,000 feet.

Tin, remember you asked about the differences between spot 1 & 2. Look at my stiff from PAX from yesterday and note the PENTAGRAM (sp). From what I can figure out that is some sort of boom mechanisim carrying fuel and possibly power to the aircraft while on the line. I am hearing more and more aircraft asking, while inbound, if the PENTAGRAM is up and operational. When Maint advises yes the aircrew seem somewhat relieved.

This doodad appears to be only available on one spot.

Excellent. Thanks JR. That's exactly why I asked because it was becoming obvious there was something special about one of the spots and I suspected it had to do with either fuel or specialized equipment.

My son is up from FL this week so I didn't get to monitor today. However, I have a contact in Hagerstown who claims to know someone at a gov contractor in HGR. He said his contact told him Hawk 65 and 31 (another bird we haven't heard yet), are their "M-Birds". That probably gets the AT&T facility near Clear Spring out of the 65 picture. After doing some research on AUTOVON and it's replacement, it would be interesting to determine what the actions is up there now..............stay tuned.

2240: E-6B, 163918, VQ-4 back in the area. Just coming in from off the ocean and just about at Waterloo flying west. He said earlier he'd be back 10:30-11:00.
Currently at 16,000 feet.
2247: It's SHADOW 20 and he's requesting direct Roanake before the full stop...120.05
Says he's going to pick up some comm people and then head back to Tinker...cleared to Roanoke...cleared to 2500 feet...120.05

Also have N24JG overhead (Jeff Gordon, Inc)

Tin one of them is sitting next door running low power engines. I think he just came in. But am unsure. I saw the Deer Sweep Truck running down the Runway when I pulled up here. Oops. There he goes. Enginges running up now it sounds like.

2312: He is taxing down Alpha West heading to RWY 6 now. He is heading out of here

2313: He is on the roll. Took off from RWY 060. Just heard SHADOW 20 up 133.9. Expect 230 heading and 130 alt.

2318: 133.9 WASH CTR advised they will give direct TINKER in 24 miles

You need to trade locations with me one night Tin

Yeah, he didn't waste any time. He did exactly what he said he was going to do - pick up his comm people and head back to Tinker...currently climbing through 15,000 feet and heading 215 degrees at 2319. At 2321, he's up to 20K and turning more to the west now - coming around to due west 270 degrees. Up to 25K and still climbing at 2324...still 270 degrees.
He's not wasting any time...up to FL 290 by 2325 and at 360 knots.
By 2328, he's up at FL 310, still climbing and heading home. Got to FL 330 and looking for more...looks like he finally leveled off at FL 340
At 2334, he's passing just to the south of Gordonsville. (End here)
And we're at the time of night where every other aircraft in the sky is a FedEx or UPS aircraaft.

And, yes indeed, I'd like to take a listen to that ground traffic from Pax. Let's trade.

Forgot to mention earlier, I had a Czech Air Force A319-115X, tail 2801 fly into the area which I caught at 2141.

I still have the PCR-1000 and a PC sitting idle waiting for DX Tuners to get their ducks in row.

I thought he was sitting funny by their ramp. He was in the middle of the taxiway and did a U boob. Turned around and taxied about 700' to the end of 060 then off he went.

Mark, I'll be reviewing that audio tonight. But to be honest if you didnlt have it clean enough to copy him well I doubt I will. But I will make the effort. If you have any more details please put them out. Every little bit helps.

Justice

I work with a DC ANG reservist who had duty this weekend. I just caught him warming up his car to go home. I walked up and asked "Hey, who is JUSTICE?' He replied. "That is our Maintenance side, why?"

Shadow 0 (zero)

 TIn, Just starting to review the audio for today. First thing this morning I had SHADOW 0 (ZERO) getting a flight clearance for the Patuxent BOX pattern. It was the first clearance given for the day from PAX.

EDIT. After reviewing the audio later into the morning CLNC DEL called them while they were still local and advised them they needed to oorrect it before departing the local area. They corrected to SHADOW 20

Ah-Hah! "Hawk" + "M-Bird" + Hagarstown = (maybe)

- AIRBORNE RECONNAISSANCE LOW-MULTIFUNCTION (ARL-M) CRAZY HAWK, an Army ISR Aircraft program initialy built by California Microwave, which is now a unit of Northrop Grumman Corporation, operating out of Hagarstown ?

The Airborne Reconnaissance Low (ARL) is a multifunction, day/night, all weather reconnaissance intelligence asset developed and fielded by the Army in support of an urgent requirement for a low profile intelligence aircraft. It consists of a modified DeHavilland DHC-7 fixed-wing aircraft equipped with communications intelligence (COMINT), imagery intelligence (IMINT), and Moving Target Indicator/Synthetic Aperture Radar (MTI/SAR) mission payloads. The payloads are controlled and operated via onboard open-architecture, multi-func-tion workstations. Intelligence collected on the ARL can be analyzed and recorded on the aircraft workstations in real-time or stored on-board for post-mission processing. During multi-aircraft missions, data can be shared between cooperating aircraft via ultra high frequency (UHF) air-to-air datalink to allow multi-platform COMINT geolocation operations. The ARL system includes a variety of communications subsystems to support near-real-time dissemination of intelligence and dynamic retasking of the aircraft.
