Several days ago I caught comms on 311.00 with a ground unit and aircraft. I did not catch the complete call signs but the AC mentioned 2 HF freqs used in the training. First was 11.178 and the other was 3.038. Shortly after the 3.038 was mentioned the AC anounced that they were quiting the training due to HF radio problems. I was mobile at wWinchester, VA.

Had comms earlier today between STEEL 64 and BATON 20 on 295.800 and the comms are ongoing now (1732 local) although not sure what the call signs are. Just turned the scanner back on after catching some ZZZZZZ's! This is a refueling freq but could it be associated with the D.C. NORAD exercise?

Thanks. Now I just remembered to check the other computer which had the box running on it before I got home. Only unknown is AE0419 which should be E-6B 164407 right? Finally using the correct code?

The other computer is going to need some more RAM at the very least if I'm going to be able to use it full time for the box. Forget about changing menus or updating the DB while it's in use.

Thanks Alan for Pax Id's,Seemed a lot of Pax guys up today.
This one threw me tonight on the box..
(AEA425) came thru my US Mil (AE) filter as B-738 tail EC-HGQ Air Europa from Spain at 0105z

Weird ADS-B testing again tonight showing (000001) changing SQ modes every few seconds.
Thinking it may be ground testing perhaps of station or encrypted Mil aircraft.
I think Euro guys have been getting these also.

Does anyone happen to know how many times POTUS has visited Camp David? I could be wrong but by my count, he's only been there once. Is that correct?

Yeah, as far as I can remember, he's only had two CAPs in his honor. One was a weekend at Camp David and the other was the four day return to the hood in Chicago - I think over the Presidents Day holiday.

I'm getting this too right now. So it's definitely not on the ground.

POTUS has been to Camp D twice. Once in early Feb and again later in March.

2213- NIGHTHAWK-12 getting the WX at Mt Weather. 241.0

That doesn't look like a valid military hex code Mark....which I guess is why you got a Spanish bird.

Yeah I use AE code as software Mil log/alert filter and always US but
this one was exception.
I always thought A or AE was always US aircraft period.but guess not.

Odd one tonight (A82B61) shows as Bell 206 chopper but also at FL 37k
and dropping.. Obvious miscode data.
One SBS log has this as a Cessna 421 (N748CA) but again way too high for that.

A and AE are always U.S. and U.S. military aircraft. It had to be a miscode that Airnav has tied up to the Spanish aircraft.

And, yes, 37K is just a tad high for a helo. Airframes has that ID too.

Canadian Exercise

Guys,

Got the following off the Milcom list---John, Ed might see some of the participants transiting through their areas.

More than 4500 local and visiting Canadian and International military
personnel are preparing for Exercise Maple Flag 42, to take place in Cold
Lake, Alberta from May 18 to June 12, 2009.

The exercise is divided into two periods, with Period One May 18-29, and
Period Two June 1-12. During each period Allied forces from Canada,
Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Republic of Singapore, the United
States, Great Britain, Australia and the NATO AWACS unit will engage in a
simulated air and ground campaign using the vast, unrestricted airspace of
Cold Lake and its Air Weapons Range as well as the Wainwright training
area for ground operations.

Period one will focus on Para deployments from US Marines Corps and Royal
Netherlands Air Force Hercules C130 J/H aircraft in support of Exercise
SPARTAN PEGASUS Para Assault carried out by A Company, 3 PPCLI on a Drop
Zone in the Wainwright Training Area. Staging and Embarkation will be from
4 Wing Cold Lake. The assault force will include Royal Netherlands Air
Defence Forces and German Forces. As well, period one will include other
transport and refuelling missions.

During period two, "Blue Air" Allied Forces from Canada, Germany, New
Zealand, Republic of Singapore, the United States, Great Britain, and NATO
Airborne Warning and Control System will engage in a simulated air
campaign using the vast, unrestricted airspace and more than 640 targets
of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. Participants will confront air and
ground based threats against "Red Air" Opposing Forces from 64th USAF
Aggressor Squadron and the Top Aces.

The USAF RQ-4 Global Hawk will be participating for the first time at
Maple Flag. This long endurance, high altitude unmanned surveillance
aircraft will stage from its home base in California. The Australian E-7A
Wedgetail AWACS aircraft will also be participating in the exercise. The
E-7A AWACS is based on the 737 airframe.
As part of the Canadian Forces International Observes Program, MF 42 will
host observers from Chile, Egypt, India, Oman, Poland, Singapore; South
Africa, United Arab Emirates; and Ukraine.
Working together planning combat missions and flying these missions in
concert with aircraft from other nations fosters and strengthens the
professional bonds forged between allied nations. The exercise will
provide important training for Canadian and allied fighter aircrews, as
well as transport, electronic warfare, air refueling, air defence, special
forces and airborne early warning and control assets from many different
nations.

Official news releases on these exercises can be viewed at:

Maple Flag XLII Powers-up... | News Releases | News Room | 4 Wing Cold Lake | Air Force | DND/CF
Maple Flag XLII Media Days... | News Releases | News Room | 4 Wing Cold Lake | Air Force | DND/CF

As for monitoring aircraft movement in and out of Cold Lake, traditionally
a lot of aircraft have moved on "transition Saturdays". Therefore, expect
to see a lot of international and overseas movements to/from Cold Lake May
15 and 16, May 29 and 30, and June 12-13.

Regards,

Rob

They left off the most important piece for Mode-S receiver users....the hex code for the first one is AE222C. The second hasn't flown yet but is at KRNT.
