My thought exactly, Phil, upon reading that. As a former resident of Osage Co., it always seemed that OHP staffing there was pretty light given the miles of state highway in the state's largest county.

According to the article, a majority of their activity occurs along the Interstate, so it makes sense to locate close to it. I don't expect the feelings of the residents of Osage County were factored into the decision. Would you care for some cheese?

As for upgrading the radio console, they ought to put the old one in a display case in a museum.

Does Osage Co. have the greatest number of state highway miles?

Talkgroups active in Stillwater Site

The sleepy backwater of the state DPS system...

I've been running Unitrunker on the Stillwater Site since Sunday, 01-14. Here are the active talkgroups on this site:

Group # Hits in 1 week
31760 110
32144 4
34320 232
38192 11
40976 9
41616 16
41744 37
41776 139
42128 588
43376 38

This was an unattended process, so I do not know what kind of traffic was being passed on the RMA channels. It appears that the troopers assigned to the Cimarron Turnpike are the biggest users of the system. That wouldn't be a surprise, since supposedly all trooper cars assigned to Turnpikes anywhere in the state have an 800 radio in them.

Based on what I've heard, all the traffic on 42128 has been the troopers asigned to the Turner. They are talking to Okla. City and giving mile markers that simply don't fit the Cimarron. Also talking about locations along the Turner. I haven't heard any traffic I would assign to the Troop K district on any TG

Last night I was hearing traffic on 43376, and it appears from the comments that this was from officers assigned to UCO. Talked about finally clearing the parking lots right before another snow and ice event, and one officer said "That's UCO for you!"

All activity for the troopers in the Stillwater area has so far remained on lowband.

Then, most likely, the turnpike troopers up there are affiliating with Turner 1 but not actively using it. I remember one time a few years back when the low-band was directed to a different troop. One of the Cimarron turnpike troopers must have been on a high spot and was able to get in to the Carney site, and requested a DL check thru OKC. It took the OKC Comm Center Dispatcher a moment to figure out what strange unit number was calling her!

The Stillwater site is now registering as being "affiliated" with,
Site 1 - City of Tulsa
Site 2 - Bristow
Site 4 - Carney
Site 11 - Crescent

Yea, definately Tulsa! But only select TGs, not all.

BTW, I suspect that Pawnee isn't yet equipped with a 800 MHz radio, I wonder if will not be installed until after they relocate to Perry.

Reason I say this, the other night Pawnee was trying to contact a trooper who'd gone out on a stop and wasn't responding to repeated calls. While I heard lots of traffic on lowband, there was nothing on 800. (Trooper was fine, his radio quit on him.) The stop was just over in Noble County and I think they could have easily reached him via the Stillwater site if they'd had a radio for it.

And all the traffic I've heard for the Cimarron TP units has been on low band.

I was up in SW today and heard AR1, AR2, AM1, Turner1, TCSO, B1, and Comm Ctr all on the SW site. Looks to be a pretty solid site. There was good audio and signal strength from a little south of the SH51 and I-35 all the way in. It seems to be a pretty good handoff site from Crescent to Tulsa.

Does anyone know what the next site to go up will be?

Just because the site is up does not mean Stillwater or any surrounding towns, counties, or Troop K will use it right away. It takes time for those that will make the switch to do so and then learn how thair radios work etc. The TGs that are being heard are just simaulcasted traffic from other agencies which is normal. When you start to see IDs that are not in the database or have never been seen before is when new agencies are using their new radios kind of like all the new Lawton and Chickasha TGs and those need to be IDed. Just give it some time. Slowly agencies in the area will join.

At this point it's not likely that any agency in this area, with the possible exception of OSU PD (possible, but not likely), other the OHP will be using the Stillwater tower. The city just bought new UHF equipment a few years back.

I just wonder when Troop K will get moved to Perry so they can come online. Then I can quit the search and turn off all the Tulsa junk coming through. It's really of no interest over here if Catoosa is 10-8 or not. ;)
