It kinda is a big deal. Lindsay just kept 5 members from buying Stolen property. Regardless of what manufacturer had them stolen, I for one would prefer not to get caught up in this deal. And who ends up paying for this loss, we do everytime we buy a scanner. It also helps to keep the sales on this forum from getting involved in anything to do with stolen property. it wouldn't bother me and many members already show a pic with the Serial number on the back in their sales threads. Unfortunately scanners do get stolen everyday, let them go to the pawn shops and not on here, for that we can thank Lindsay.........The longer this thread stays active the better, more of a chance of not gettin caught up in it and the person or persons that done it can get caught..........Good Scannin Hoser

"Go on the air" ?????

these are receivers...they don't broadcast their serial number. They don't "go on the air"

There is nothing to "track"

GRE should program their firmware so when a upgrade is done to the serial numbers of a stolen scanner that it will make the scanner not boot and only give a message to call GRE customer support when the scanner is turned on.
