My Uniden BCD436HP is stopping on channels but will not pick up any audio. I'm very new to scanning and after tons of YouTube videos and Google searches, I was unable to find a fix for this...

How's your squelch set? Ideally it should be no lower than 2. How's volume set?

Did you program by hand or use Sentinel? Though you claim no audio are you seeing signal bars at all? (top right of LCD) Have you tried any other frequencies? Have a local NOAA weather frequency you can tune to?

I didn't do anything with the scanner other than entering my ZIP code (74462). I let it run through various channels like OBN, OSBI, OHP, and some surrounding town's fire, EMS, and law frequencies. I'm going to see if I can find a local NOAA freqency.

Hi Jay, if you're using the ZIP code method you are picking up a lot from OKWIN your Statewide p25 Phase 1 System. You're rolling through multiple sites so if you're looking to hear your local dispatch it'll take a long time to roll around back to that one frequency.

If ever there was a case for installing Sentinel and programming a favorites list with the very small number of frequencies that you need to get full coverage in your area this is it LOL.

There are plenty of resources on how to do this just by searching.

I made up a list of things you would want to put on a favorites list. First we will start with the state patrol- c that covers Haskell County.

This is the Muskogee site which appears to be the closest to you, I don't know your geography there, might be a closer site that covers State Patrol - c you are On The Fringe of this site.

These are the only talk groups that you would need for the state patrol - c

Just for your information the state patrol uses a VHF low band frequency for car to car

There's also a Federal p25 conventional VHF High frequency with a NAC right in your hometown for the Choctaw Indian Reservation police.

And of course you have your sheriff's office in Haskell County and your police and fire in Stigler

As I said you're picking up a lot of stuff on the ZIP code method and there's many things that can cause the search to hang up with no audio.

Learn how to program your radio with Sentinel and make a favorites list with everything I provided and you will be pretty well covered for your area.

Do your research and there's plenty of folks here that will help you.

Oh I forgot to mention make sure that all of your service types are turned on, they are not by default when you first get the radio.

I'd recommend (as Bob did above me) to program the frequency and any others you listen to on a regular basis into a favorites list via Sentinel, this way the scanner won't waste resources scanning items which you may not be interested in and/or may be out of range to you without an external antenna. You have greater control over items scanned if you program them into FLs.
