I was wondering if there was anyone else who routinely drives in the south metro on 35W in the Burnsville area, right around the Burnsville Parkway and Hwy 13 areas. Any time I've driven those roads lately (*the last 6 months or so) I've picked up very strong interference along both off ramps off the freeway. The noise is oftentimes enough to completely block 2 meter simplex frequencies, and sometimes register half scale on the s-meter.
Also, in a completely different area, heading south on Mystic Lake Blvd south of CR 42 in Prior Lake, there's an *extremely* strong broadband intereference source. Not only does it register near full signal on the s-meter on 2 Meters, but on part of the 220 band as well. The strongest peak occurs as soon as you pass the smoke shop right across the street from that little lake.
That area's a weird one for cell service, too: whenever my girlfriend is driving in that area, just south of 42 on Mystic Lake Blvd, her cell phone drops calls and loses service.
I haven't attempted to try any RDF on the noise off 42/Mystic Lake Blvd for personal/political reasons, but I hope to track at least the source of the 2 Meter noise on 35W and Hwy 13.
I'm aware of a lot of RDF techniques-I'm fairly well practiced on it, all I'm wondering is if any efforts in the areas I mentioned in Burnsville are going to be pointless.
FWIW, I don't have a recording of the noise yet, nor do I have video of where the noise peaks and starts to drop out, but it sounds like an unmodulated, non-data carrier with irregular peaks. It could be power line noise.
One last bit of information-the noise comes in on 147.570 Simplex, FM in the B'ville area. Near Prior Lake, the frequency really doesn't matter.
