How come on support 5 I could hear the dispatcher and sometimes here the engines? But then other times I could only hear the Dispatcher. Why can't I always hear both? and they are not on 2 different Frequencies. They are on the Same Frequencies.

Riverside County Fire only repeats RRU-1 (West County), RRU-2 (Major Incident Command), and RRU-3 (East County). All of the "Support" channels are simplex only, and are relatively low power sites, for local Fire Ground operations.

Hope this helps.

They also simulcast the Support cannels, which is why--for example-- you'll hear them talking to units out in the Coachella Valley off of Support 5 on Box Springs. Perris is talking on Support 7 off of Cactus City (east of Coachella) but also transmitting on Support 5 Box.

One reason for the simulcasting and the lack of repeaters on the channels is due to lack of frequencies and not enough dispatchers. Also, they aren't THAT busy to where they need one dispatcher for each Support channel. Yet.

My advice: Take a tour of the dispatch center and see how the system works.
