Makes me wonder if they’ve decided to piggyback off of Sussex.
They’ve been working on this for a while and was originally going to be UHF TRBO with Commtronics (now MCA). This sounds like it’s now going to be a Harris system.
Terry Hall was pushing really hard for them to join York, James City, Williamsburg. And even went behind Commtronics back (hearsay) trying to steal the contract away from them.

Surprised they didn’t join the 647 system. I think it’s Harris too. I tried plugging in the frequencies but didn’t catch any activity on them

They can’t afford it. Seems like I remember hearing something about two more towers having to be installed in Surry for that to work.
If they’re piggybacking off of Sussex, they likely would only have to add one tower.

I believe the new FCC license only shows the same 2 towers they have now

Looks like the system was being tested this morning. The only public announcement I have seen is that the County was testing Mobile Radio devices today and watch for slow moving vehicles.

Has anyone caught any testing TG’s?
I haven't heard anything yet but I'm new to scanning trunked systems. I just got my sds200 two days ago and there isn't any info for the new Surry system in unidens database yet

Still haven’t noted any talk groups being tested. Just a significant amount of coverage testing

Surry Count Board of Supervisors had a session today where the new radio system was discussed. Installation in vehicles is expected to begin this month. Here is a link to the meeting from today:

I was just informed that the new MOT system in Surry County will be encrypted for all talkgroups in the system.
