Hello,

I have recently been noticing about a 5 second delay in the alpha tag of my Cape Cod Public Safety Feed. I originally attributed this to an upgrade from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro on the "feed server" computer which I completed last Friday night.

Tonight I opened a port through my router and went out over the internet and connected to the feed. I didn't notice any lag in the tag display. I then had a friend of mine do the same. He also told me that the tags were right on the money.

I then went back to the feed through RR and noticed the delay again. This seems to be a recent development as indicated above. Is anyone else noticing this lag or is it just me suffering some internet latency between here and Lindsay?

To elaborate, I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 32 bit on a PC with 3 GB RAM and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+. I run 4 concurrent copies of ScannerCast, all streaming to RR, with only the above feed sending alpha tags via a standard Comcast internet connection that averages about 2.6 MBPS upload speed, so resources are not an issue.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I've only noticed this when the media player was set to stream at 128kbps instead of 16kbps.

Both of my feeds lag on the tags as well... Never have been able to get them real time.

When you say "media player" are you referring to ScannerCast or whatever software you're using to provide the feed? My ScannerCast feeds are all set to 24kbps.

The standard feed bit & sample rate's are:
Bit Rate: 16kbs CBR for a mono (single) scanner feed
Bit Rate: 32kbs CBR for a stereo (duel) scanner feed
Sample Rate: 22050 hz (22.050Khz)

Best is to uses these settings.

Well there's no sample rate control in ScannerCast. At 16kbs it works fine but there is noticeable background hash. Said hash is eliminated at 24kbs.

This morning performance is much better, about a second at the most in lag-time, so the problem is/was probably latency more than anything else.

I'm referring to the media player used to play the feeds, I know in Winamp there is a setting somewhere that you can change from 128kbps to 16kbps and that syncs tags. I never use winamp anymore so I don't know if it's still an option or where that option even was.

I'm using Proscan on Windows 7 and I have no issues with delayed tags. Maybe the software is to blame.
