I have been studying the D cell battery compartment of a 2200x and was looking at D cell battery eliminators. I was concerned that the eliminators would cause RFI making them unsuitable. But while I was realizing how the eliminators was basically just connecting to the positive and negative terminals in the battery compartment. Then I had an idea. Why couldn’t I just use a well regulated DC power supply like my MW122a, and connect it to the positive and negative terminals in the battery compartment and run the radio on AC? The MW122a is a linear power supply, so no RFI. Would this work as long as the polarity is carefully observed?

I'd probably install a DC power connector (where possible) and solder the connector wires to the battery input on the circuit board. This would be relatively easy to do -- but I cannot suggest this for certain since I don't own this unit.

Obviously, make sure the DC switch is set to the "D" cell compartment.

PS. I found a decent picture online and you can clearly see where the "D" compartment attaches to the power controller PCB. So it'd be very easy to install a DC jack on the back of the unit.

OR, I'd consider cutting the female jack off this cable and soldering the cable to the internal PCB. Then I could just stuff the cable in the "D" battery compartment when portable and/or not-in-use. Then just buy the matching DC cable to run from the PS to the S-2200x

Yes, that was what I was thinking too. But I was thinking before I commit, I would use alligator clip leads in the battery compartment until I find out what the reception is like on a linear supply. I didn’t get any RFI from the supply when I used it with my 800, so I don’t anticipate any issues with the 2200x
