Yesterday I heard Amherstburg out on a fire call so they are still on the UHF crap for now.
I was at one of their stations few weeks ago and they have a UHF 4550 in the trucks for the Connect Plus system and a VHF 7550 in the pick up trucks that have like, 4 marine channels and the county VHF paging frequency and the wrong frequency for Kingsville Fire.
Windsor Fire dispatch has been moved from Station 1 HQ into the Police station now, so it's a central dispatch for all Essex County Fire (other than Kingsville, who's dispatched by Lasalle.
As per always, dispatchers and patching groups together never works out. No different here. Windsor claims they can't communicate with say Lakeshore Fire and Leamington because Lakeshore is UHF Connect Plus DMR and Leamington is VHF analog (for now,) yet they share the same dispatch center and the same dispatch console. So, why not just PATCH the damn groups together?
Apparently they were unaware they could do that. No different then how Amherstburg Police is connected to Windsor's system at the moment. APD is VHF P25 and connects to the 800 MHz system.
As for paging, no idea if AFD will keep their paging frequency or just reprogram all the pagers for the county paging frequency and be good to go that way. Or, issue everyone Unication pagers and go THAT route. Amherstburg and Tecumseh will for sure be going over to the city system and will be encrypted with at least ADP since that's what Windsor Fire currently has in place due to they have a handful of XTS and XTL radios in their fleet. So once them are upgraded to APX you'll see APD go bye bye and become AES.
