Tennessee highway patrol frequencies

Has tennessee highway patrol switched back to analog vhf??? I looked at the frequencys and I dont see p25 anymore??? Is this a error or something..

Yes, if don't really understand trunking and modern scanners this is most likely over your head.

Also your need one that decodes P25 phase 2. Many of the talkgroups are Phase 1, but the ones in clear for THP are Phase 2.

depending on where you are monitoring, you may hear them on VHF. I think a lot of things would have to go wrong for them to be on analog.
Perhaps you heard them utilizing another agencies' channel, or they were sneaking and using another frequency bank in their portables or something? Just spitballing here.

P25 is digital radio, like how the tv antennas went from regular to digital. Trunking is computer-driven radio. The computers select the frequencies on an as-needed basis instead of permanently assigning a frequency to a channel. About it in a nutshell

TN State system does use some VHF repeaters to cover more rural areas. The channel mix for enc or not is same as 800. So one may hear VHF input (if unit is close by) or base on the repeater input frequency but would think that would be infrequent. And the VHF frequency can change with key/unkey of radio.
