Just working through all the possible problems?
Anything special about the data cable?
What should the light on the front be doing?
etc.
i worked and worked with the pcr-100 software last night---n0 joy--it would not communicate with the unit, wouldn't even turn it on------N_Jay said:I have the PRC-100 v1.1 program running but is not communicating with the radio.

The cable should be a standard RS232, nothing special.

installed the pcr 1000 software, and first try worked beautiful!!!
I am running xp pro sp2, read that others were havivg problems with the 100 software with xp--anyway, i think the 1000 software has more feature anyway IMO..
Good luck---
ps-- just got one of the 50.00 eBay bargains--great product-fasssssst shipping...you wont be sorry!

I get the computer window, but I don't even need the radio connected to get that.
I get a "Communication failed" error when I try to do anything
The PS is 900 MA
Does the light on the front of the radio indicate power in, or unit on, or what?
GreatLakes said:Yes, the little green light on the front-right indicates the power is on. 900ma should be enough. I actually ran mine for a day on a 500ma, at low volume, using the internal speaker. The adapter got warm, but it worked.
This is the screen I was referring to:

N_Jay said:Anyone know a good way to test a comm port.
I have not used them in so long.
GreatLakes said:If this comm port is not normally used, it could be disabled in the computer's BIOS. This is very common on laptops, and even some desk tops. Sometimes done for power conservation (although very little saved), and often done for security. I would check that first.
You could also take a look in XP's Device Manger, under Ports, and see if it's showing there, and is it enabled.
Also make sure you don't have a null-modem cable (pins 2 & 3 reversed on one end).
N_Jay said:Been there.
They are turned on in bios, I have tried several settings.
Some time I get a comm port error right away (assume wrong settings) other times I get a "communication Failure" assume settings are right and some other problem.
(bad port? Bad cable, Bad radio, Some weird XP software setting, ect.)

In any case, dump it and use TalkPCR. It is the absolute best for simple scanning, and use TrunkPCR for trunking (with a tap). Both work great under XP
FWIW the radio would not work for me on a USB adaptor, needed a real serial port.
N_Jay said:What version of TalkPCR is best where is the best source and does it need any additional drivers to work with XP?
GreatLakes said:The one I sent you should work. TrunkPCR also works, even with out the Disc Tap, for conventional systems. No special drivers required.
