Hearing Abilene this morning, 50XX and 56XX. also getting Texarkana, 1741 seems to be Wood County.

Well, heard 1741 being dispatched that morning to a vehicle vs. horse in Wood Co. by Texarkana. Course, that might have been an off-duty trooper on his way home also.

I have a hunch about the San Antonio Comm Center, that would have to be verified by a few of us (unless someone is in an ideal location to hear more than one of these repeaters).

For awhile I've noticed that San Antonio's Repeater 21 seems to be linked to another repeater. I understand the half duplex system of the mobiles/bases on the Base frequencies but on this repeater it seems that I'm only getting one side of the conversation about half the time. Not normal for repeaters. I've suspected that since San Antonio controls the old Kerrville Comm Ctr area (Kerrville CC closed August 2007) this repeater might be linked to another to provide good coverage in the hills of Kendall, Gillespie and Kerr Counties. So it makes sense that San Antonio controls these remotely (Kerrville Base A1, Stonewall 18A and Junction 14B).

Today, I listened to a vehicle chase on Hwy290 in which San Antonio called all Gillespie County THP & CVE, to assist. The vehicle was eventually taken out with spike strips by a GCSO unit. All of this being broadcast on Repeater 21 in northern Bexar County. Only one side of the conversation (Dispatch) was ever heard. The units were 657Xs (repeated by dispatch). My assumption is that Repeater 21 is linked to either the Kerrville Base A1 or Stonewall 18A (or more than one). The dispatcher is broadcasting on both at once. I know it doesn't make sense, since the troopers are only listening to one at a time (unless they have more than one radio) but those are my observations.

Anyone in Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Blanco, or the surrounding areas that can confirm or help confirm?

By the way...

Since DPS re-numbered last December I have not heard a single "K" unit for K9s. In the past I would hear K321, K322, K621 and K622 (I lived on the border of old Regions 3 and 6). However, since the change I've not heard any "K6XXs" at all. I'm assuming the K9 trooper numbers got folded in to the others. If they do have a certain scheme for K9s I haven't figured it out.

Anyone else?

I am curious, has anyone intercepted a clear transmission on 155.505 in NAC?
Yes. Occasionally mobiles here in Mineral Wells use 155.505 and 159.090 in the clear. Due to only having a 396T I don't know what the NAC is but it has been reported as 162 in other areas.

I was listening to San Marcos PD work with DPS today. An SMPD K9 officer, talking to his superior, was discussing how he was helping DPS today "on the highway." He was being assisted by LulingPD K9. The SMPD officer mentioned no DPS K9s were working the "event" yet, like they had been yesterday.

As I passed by the northbound weight station on I-35 (exit 211ish), I see the SMPD K9, a LulingPD K9 and about 7 or 8 DPS CVE Tahoes, all working the scales. Many more DPS Tahoes were on the roads.

Is there some kind of task force or commercial vehicle program going on?

Most of the units I was hearing were 663Xs and 664Xs, with a smattering of THP 636Xs.

As I recall, there is usually a high - intensity, high visibility commercial vehicle inspection task force this time of the year (January). It may even be nationwide - sprearheaded by USDOT - state DOTs participate to the extent that they have the resources. It usually consists of full vehicle inspections and extra scrutiny of driver docs. They cast a pretty broad net and usually catch some fish!

Bill,

I missed this comment sooner, but throughout December and January, while driving through the northbound weigh station at Yarrington Rd., I've seen multiple CVE vehicles assisted by THP, with 18-wheelers stopped at the station. There can be as many as 7 or 8 CVE Tahoes and a few THPs running up and down 35 about a mile or so. They're sometimes assisted by KPD and SMPD (espcecially K-9s).

At one point, late in the evening, I was hearing a 684X talking to a 636X about needing a K-9, and could he get a hold of Luling PD (or Lockhart maybe?) to get a K-9. When one wasn't available they had to call for a Guadalupe Cty SO K-9. I recall the Hays County K-9s (and SMs) being at training somewhere.

Needless to say, they were busy with commercial vehicles. I didn't know this was a USDoT sponsored thing, but that is good to hear.

Has anyone tried to send an open records request to just get a master list of the unit numbers?

Where's the fun in that? We know their numbering scheme pretty much. I don't care to know there names unless I know them personally. Plus, when they switch offices (which they do on a fairly regular basis , usually a couple times throughout their career), their number will change. An open records request might answer some questions, but it might draw a watchful eye also. I like the challenge of figuring out the mental puzzle...

What good is a master list, when they could just get a program to change their numbers at random, negating the former list (meaning, you'd have to submit another request)? It'd probably convince them that more MDT/cell communication is necessary.

Then there is the security aspect- say the list gets in to the hands of a felon, who has a bone to pick with trooper Abcd. So he finds out that trooper Abcd is unit 1234, and you can imagine where the story can go from here... my point being, in my opinion (and I'm all for transparency and open records), this could be a security concern for officer safety.

I love knowing everything about the radio user from the radio standpoint. I like to know what RID/LID corresponds with which officer number/vehicle number/beat number/shift number, and promote the propagation of this information through the medium we know as RadioReference. But, I don't care to know names for the sake of offering the LEO a little courtesy and a sense of more security.

Heard 3422 and 3423 last night dispatched thru the Denton Co. Sheriffs office. Was hoping to catch them on a DPS P25 repeater but it was not to be...oh how I long for the old days, of 42.9 and 42.74 and low band skip.

Yes, DPS was doing a Narc investigation/Raid in the Quinlan area back around November 2010, they utilized a Fixed wing aircraft 109 for surveillance. The entire operations was on 155.505 NAC: 162, Simplex and in the clear. I've also heard Dallas units working 505 ITC in P25 and the same on 159.0900.
