I thought it would be nice to have a place folks could go to get answers to questions they have without having to look all over for them.I got rid of my 396T last week an will be getting my 396XT Thursday. My first question of what Im sure will be many is my local police and fire will be on one system can I use a blue backlight for PD red for FD its a con. system if that matters Thanks

Actually a better idea would be to set up a separate set of sections in our DMA FAQ just for the XT models, since most of the hints and definitions there still apply. C'mon you lucky 396XT and 346XT owners!

In answer to your question, you can assign a color to the alert for each channel. The color will revert to the main selection after the alert.

All preprogrammed systems have SQKs assigned. You can determine a system's SQK by looking at the next-to-bottom line in the display. The number next to the "S" indicates the SQK's first digit. The flashing numeral indicates the SQK's second digit.

For example:

S4 : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
(bold and big indicates blinking in this example)
indicates SQK 42. To enable/disable it you would press [./no] [4] [2] while scanning.

Yes, once I figured out that there was a group created called quick save it made sense. What a great radio, I'm starting to feel more comfortable with it, but there is a lot more to get the feel of. T.Y. UPMan for the reply...... John.

Do you have to name your site name the same as your system name cause when I set up mt SAFE-T system using one site it asks for frequency and name I left name as is.When I scan site # comes up not system name

The site name is what is going to be displayed during scanning. They don't have to be the same as the system name, but you'll probably want it to at least be something descriptive.

I have a question about the 396XT's alert flags:

I see that there is an alert for each talkgroup. I also notice that there is an alert in the talkgroup's system settings. Do the system setting alert setting override the individual TGID's alert setting or vice-versa?

Another way to ask this question is how to make use of the two alert settings: 1) The TGID and 2) the system?

Thanks,
Dave

There is no system-level alert setting (i.e. alert when a system becomes active). There is an Emergency Alert setting that is set at the system level that provides an alert when a channel becomes active with the emergency flag set. As this isn't common, I don't offhand know which takes precedence (channel alert or emergency alert).

Write UASD to the BCD396T.
Read from BCD396T into FreeScan.
Make any necessary alterations.
Write FreeScan into BCD396XT.

I am sure a version of UASD is coming soon that will support the BC396XT.

One thing you could do temporarily is to use FreeScan to load your existing BC396T UASD file and then upload it to the BC396XT. FreeScan can read (import) UASD files and can upload to the BC396XT.
