Im young, and I know what a cigarette adapter is, but let me show you a few other options:
I am sorry I did not intend to offend you. In fact, I don't even know you. Perhaps the Shack will hire you?
Perhaps you did work there and that is why you were offended but you have to believe me when I tell you, "I didn't even know you"!!

Option #1 - Check and see if you can lisen live for free, right here on Radio Reference!
Live Police, Fire, and EMS Scanners on RadioReference.com
(Assuming you have a computer, and internet service)

TOTAL COST: FREE
LOL, you know I couldn't find the things I wanted to listen to there, yes I explored that 1st. Then there are many more reasons that was not an attractive option - those reasons are prob worth their own space in another thread. This thread was for people who also did not find the online stuff attractive either.

Option #2 Buy a used Radio Shack Pro 106 for $301.
For Example:
LN PRO-106 39000-CHANNEL DIGITIAL HANDHELD SCANNER - eBay (item 280435161618 end time Dec-07-09 17:50:11 PST)
Then take it to Radio Shack and let them program it for you!

TOTAL COST: $301.
ummm, that auction is over my friend. In fact, I am now wondering who won 'that auction'?? And had Radio Shack program it?? So maybe they won't hire you!!!
Scanner only, nothing else is included
I don't know if you have Read anything else in this thread where I mentioned the reasons I didn't want an ebay item but not having a warranty is just one more reason. See, This is not my 1st scanner.

Can anyone tell me how to upload my current scanner frequencies, into the Win500 software?

I just purchased a new Pro 106 from radio Shack, and they loaded it with freqs.
Then i downloaded a free trial of Win 500.
Id like to begin , by uploading these freqs, into the software.
Probably simple, but overwhelming for a newbi like myself!
Any help would be greatly appriciated!
You, my friend, are wise behind your ears. I thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience. ;)

I do hope you find work soon. Perhaps you're not sleeping well either?
== the Cost of Scanning (CoS) ==

I thought I'd try to figure out just how much I have spent by recently returning to scanning after a long hiatus. So pardon me if I talk out loud. If you'd rather not hear it read no further.

GumbyCT:

OK, Now you got me curious - using either method, how do you upload or download this data to/from the scanner?

You use the import function from whatever program your using, whether it be Win500 or ARC500 or other (none that I'm aware of). Sometimes it is easier to work with the frequencies and tags in a spread sheet. Just copy and paste the information you imported and put it into a spreadsheet. When you are done tweaking things to your satisfaction you just copy and paste the information back into the scanner program. Then you use upload (to send information to scanner) or download (to send scanner information into Win500 or ARC500.

Using one of the programs I think I could handle. It musta been the other guy I thought was saying you could get by w/o using any software.

Ok yea I could try messing with that. Of course when I first got either scanner all I wanted to do was upload the freqs and get busty... I mean busy. But yea, I see where the listing needs some fine tunings. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply John.

The only way I'd buy a scanner from Ebay, would be if it was "refurbished", not used. To me a "USED" scanner is a DROPPED scanner. I've had a few scanners sent to Ft. Worth to get minor repairs, they have always sent my scanner back way better than it was originally.
As far as having RS program my (ANY) scanner, surely you jest, LMAOROFL!!! old or wise...hmmm lol.

Not all items on eBay are dropped or damaged.
On the other hand it's buyer beware.. sometimes it's a good deal somtimes you get what you pay for.

If the original poster wants those accessories included go with the GRE or uniden.
The uniden is missing the USB cable but has batteries and FREE SOFTWARE available.

If he wants to support his local radio shack then he can when he buys the ac adapter USB cable cigarette adapter and batteries from them for his 106.

I also have a Pro 106. Bought it on sale from RS at $399 and the 20-047 cable. Since then I've purchased the AC and DC adaptors from Scanner Master. Personally, you don't NEED and RR subscription. I don't have one, used Win500 30 day trial and entered the bulk of my objects during that time. I have since paid for it and just use it to tweek a few things every now and then. I have over 1400 objects in my main V folder. The subscription is great when you want to get your new radio up and running right away, but I can't see the need for a subscription afterwards to download an entire TSYS again just because one new TG has been to your, i.e., police department. Enter it manually with or without software. Even though these new scanners are confusing at first, learn to program by hand too, it's free ! There are less expensive cables out there, try various dollar stores for 1/8" cables and adaptors too, way cheaper than $7.50.

As for any hobby, wheather it's scanners, stamp/coin collecting or fixing up old muscle cars - enjoying your stuff outweighs any cost associated with it. Have fun with your stuff !!!

You must not realize that you do not need a subscription to Radio Reference to get frequencies, as copy and pasting works quite well.
No, I didn't know, in fact can't figure out how either. Could you explain in detail what you mean by this? How is this done?
Thanks

Right-click over what you want, select "copy"

Load up freescan and then paste them there.

freescan is for Uniden scanners only. It has a special feature that allows you to copy a large grid of information and it formats it to paste into the program (less hassle for you).

Since you are a premium subscriber, any of the programing software (that supports this feature) allows you to import information from the radio reference database (even easier than copy and paste)

The RR part I knew about I was trying to find out how to do it like Dak48 says -

Well you can always copy frequencies from the database and paste them straight into whatever programming software you have. And that does not require a subscription, I guess that is what he is referring to.

I don't know what he is/was referring to - which is why I asked. Apparently he won't tell me either.

I have tried the cut/paste and you would have to do it one-cell-at-a-time and hardly seems worth the trouble.

Could he have really thought that I had a Uniden Scanner?

But that might require some "massaging" of the data before it will paste into software for the PRO-106. For example, Win500 won't be happy with the DB's "179.9 PL" text. You'd have to modify that data somehow... the utility described in this thread seems to work quite well.

That's nifty, thanks for pointing that out Don.

I was just referring to the fact that you could say copy just the frequency and paste it into Win500 to ensure you didn't mess it up. Granted you could "copy" the info to your brain and "paste" it into the software by typing it. :)
