Don't depend on Pyongyang to stick to their schedule. Variations, particularly during crises, are not at all unusual, and they aren't the easiest to hear (at least on the East Coast) anyway.

In any case, be sure to keep an eye on the DXLD Yahoo group, World of Radio, the NASWA Yahoo group (for NASWA members) and other groups like these for up to the minute (well as close as you can get, anyway) updates to freqs and schedules.

I was thinking the same thing, as far as crises goes, now would be a great time to listen to Korea SW stations, and military stuff from there also (if you can catch it).

Between S and N Korea and the USA, who knows whats gonna happen, and could be great catching on the RADIO!

North Korea comes in pretty strong and on time on 9335khz at 8am PDT. I'm going to see if I can hear KBS on 9650 in 15 minutes here (@ 5am PDT.)

It's surrounded by Radio New Zealand and a China station so I'm curious to see how the signal makes out.

Bah! I have 3 signals converging on 9650khz at the same time. Naturally, the 9645 China broadcast is in English as well as 9650 KBS and 9655 RZI...

I'll have try the Southeast Asia frequency in an hour.

9335khz caught here 7-9 on the meter 1615UTC...and on 11710khz-kimdongpill makes a statement on how he feels the need to "carry out his revolutionary duties" against the enemies-then some korean opera singer lady followed then in between another quip from dummy saying he is doing it "for the happiness of his nation"

Sampling vintage Juche propaganda is fun on 11710 and 9335 khz! Signal was somewhat weak though, as I live on the East Coast.

Lots of propoganda against the USA and South Korea on 9335 this AM. Signal is great but SO hard to follow the speech!! It sounds like they are trying to hold two ball bearings under their tongue while speaking It may get interesting as time goes on-I am definately "subscribed" and have it in the memories.

Just heard on 11710KHz "we are building nuclear arsenal to defend ourselves against imperialist enemies" theyre getting honest now that they have the two jounalists to use as bargaining leverage
When they sign off they refer to themselves as "the democratic people's republic of korea"-wow!

The Orwellian Republic of Korea is just spewing hot air.

Remember, every time they try to construct a device to deliver their weak payloads, it blows up on the launch pad or very shortly after liftoff.

Another side note about the war: It was actually the South Korean leader Syngman Rhee who refused to sign the 1953 Armistice, therefore, there's still technically a state of war between North and South, even all these years later.

As for these journalists, I don't know what Kim Jong-Crazy and his cabal are thinking.

This listening in the run-up to a restart of major hostilities is going to get very interesting, indeed. Hearing it in relatively poor English from the North is slightly amusing, since I feel it adds to their wackiness, whereas the South's broadcasts I have to record and ask my Korean friends to translate.

I just finished listening on 9335 as they rattled off the charges against the two Asian reporters. They view their "criminal acts" as hostile towards north korea-the criminal act being gathering information to make "motion pictures" designed to cast north korea in a negative light.
The announcer ended the broadcast with "..and the judgement against them is non-appeal-able."


They are in trouble out there

They're going to be bargaining chips. I think it's the Sewdish dipolomat that has been allowed to check up on them (before the trial), since we don't have formal relations. I read that a few years back, the North has "released" prisoners like this for cash money via backchannels.

Although it may take time, I'm sure they'll be ransomed for a tidy sum of Euros...

Anyone hear that 9335 and 11710 went off air for a few minutes this morning? 11710 came back fairly quickly but 9335 was off air for about 3 minutes.

Why in the mornings

Does anyone know why is DPRK broadcasting to NAm in the mornings only. I'm sure this cuts into "ratings" seriously, since most SW listeners in the USA are tuning in at nights. Maybe it has something to do with propagation?

I've been trying to listen to their broadcasts once or twice and never succeeded but at most times I have something more important to do at 9am and 11am EST.

Well, if you take into consideration the following points:

1. They are +16 hours PDT (that's +13 from EDT.)
2. English is not their first language
3. They don't like us much
4. They know Wash DC will be listening at that time
5. Did I mention they don't like us much?

There won't be any propagation at that hour on any lower freq. to North America, it's all daylight.

Early this morning I stumbled across another interesting station from the Korea's called The Voice of the People on 6600 and 6518. Signal was great but hard to follow due to heavy jamming.
