Thread Lock

I just put together a discone for a friend, and as always, I used either blue Loctite or Vibratite. Never had any problems.

No, I do not put loctite on my oil drain plug, but, if you like I can list at least 4 reasons why . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
and reading some of the replies, it seems like some of the experts here use what ever tool is handy, including a sledgehammer . . . .
so, I am not an expert in radio or scanner technology, and now I am unsure that I would like to be . . . .

Point I was making was that if you want to put loctite on your antenna, that's fine.
But it's not required and not necessary. Following the assembly directions works and I've not had any issues with the antenna coming part.

I have one of those and the radials would sometimes come loose because they are hollow and are indented by the grub screw. I just tightened them well and its been fine. If I had used threadlock, the wrench might tear up the screw.

I too have seen this with a discone antenna (Jaybeam) so put a short slug of aluminium rod in the end of each element to prevent it crushing. Thread lock isn’t necessary but if you do then make sure you use “service removable” stuff to reduce the risk of damage if you need to disassemble it. Another option is to use some clear nail varnish.
