I'll be there on Sunday, and a friend of mine who lives near there has a spot that she says is pretty good. I'll get the details closer to the show and post them here.

I'm sure there will be Blue Angels practices and the like...does anyone have the arrival and practice schedule as was posted in the other airshow thread?

Matt

So my friend's location is a wash, only cause I'm bringing my girlfriend along, and there's no bathrooms within walking distance. I'm sure all of you understand that when you bring a girlfriend along, you need to be somewhat close to a bathroom.

So having said this, where are the good spots to watch the show without being on base? Are there any good spots within walking distance of a bathroom?

Matt

monte - scroll up a bit for previously posted spots off the airport. Easiest way is to drive around and see, it's not THAT large of a complex.

Lots of trees and wooded areas where a girl can squat !
Anyone that comes with me to a show, woman or children included, had better be prepared to rough it.

Best thing to do is head to around Michigan Ave a bit west of Beck, determine the flight profile, and find a good spot in one of the many fields or parking lots in the area.

Heard the Blues practiced WEN & THUR.
Will be around tomorrow FRI, and likely both show days. Hope the weather holds out, they are calling for spotty showers all 3 days.

Cops let folks hang out on the end of the runway most of the day, started booting people around 2 before Blue takeoff.
Weather was hot and sunny up until then, just after the Blues started a rain squall arrived, and they aborted their practice after only 10 minutes in the air.

Pretty slow day. A few warbirds arrived, and F-16 demo put on a good show.
Unfortunately, that was about it.
After the rain squall, a MV-22 Osprey arrived. First time I have ever seen one, pretty odd bird. Did a pass in aircraft mode, then came around and landed with rotors tilted. 2 Navy F-5 Aggressors came in, nice to see these sleek old jets still in service, didn't know any were left operational.

Anyone catch the B-1 & B-2 flying the show today ?
I heard the tower reference them, but didn't hear any direct comms .. Leading me to believe that I am missing a freq or 2.

Reviving this thread for the upcoming 2012 show, AUG 4/5.

Not many jet acts, no BS or TB, but alot of warbirds.
Far as I know, 2 civvy Harriers are the only jets.
Good thing about no premium jet acts is usually you can hang out at the end of the runway on Ecorse rd without any hassles.
I plan on going FRI/SAT/SUN, weather & work permitting ,,, And I usually hang out right on Ecorse, I prefer to be to one side or the other of the runway rather than right at the end.
Not so much for safety reasons, but you get a better view of the aircraft in profile.

The US Navy Super Hornet has been added to the display for TOM. It's not clear from the e-mail if it's static display only or a flying display. It only talks about the Super Hornet not a demo team.

Saw the arrival, 5 F-18's no less.
Also a nice F-5 Aggressor. Too bad none of them are flyers, hope to see them in the air on departure SUN.

Show is very good, had 11 Mustangs in the air at once, doing multiple passes.
Then put up a P-38, Corsair, 2 P-47's, 2 B-25's and a B-17, again doing multiple passes. Very close to a WW2 aviation lovers dream - I like them alot, but am more of a jet guy.
B-29 flew quite a bit, including a couple low high speed passes. F-86 great as usual, Harrier very nice to see.

That time of year again, thought I'd revive for 2014.
Ecorse will be a no go zone pretty much with the TBirds flying, they usually close it off between Beck & Denton roads.
Not much in the way of jet acts, pretty prop heavy. I plan on going there for the FRI fly-in and practice, probably go in SAT and out on the road again SUN.
Main runway is still down so don't know what the orientation of take offs and landings will be, always a guessing game at Ypsi.
