Got a new Kenworth T330 dumptruck this year and looking to update to a new radio as well.. I'm considering going with a bone stock out of the box Uniden 880, seeing as I don't really have a need for SSB in the dumptruck, and backing it up with a RM Italy KL203.. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this setup? I'll be running it into a Wilson mirror mounted Trucker 2000 antenna.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My choice in your situation was Cobra 29+RFX75. Everything in one box and cleaner output than the KL203. Ran my 29RFX for over 4 yrs with no problems and all great reports.
Do you think a bone stock out of the box radio such as the Uniden 880 would be overdriving it?

My old school Tiger 40 (not Tomcat) has no issues running the KL at 4 watts in and 75 out around 85-90% modulation.
From what I have read the 880 does less than 4 watts out and under 85 for modulation
from new straight out of the box...so she should run fine...
The good thing is too you can disconnect KL and put it on any radio yourself.
I don't know how much your paying for the 880 but for the bit extra would you not be better off with the 980 ?... just asking...

Yeah I've been tossing the idea of the 980 around in my head as well...
The negative and positive post on my dash are rated at 15 amps, would I possibly be able to run the amp and radio from these post?
Your drawing about the limits of your dash posts... The amp will draw up to 10 Amps at max output.
But with your stock radio I don't think you will ever reach 10 Amps.
Your stock radio will (880) will do around 2-3 amps.
So you should be fine !
