I'm trying to use a TK-350 I bought off someone on this forum but it apparently isn't charging. Do you think this is most likely the fault of the charger, the radio or the battery? The charger's status light lights up, so it appears to be working. The battery gets a bit warm so the charger is obviously transmitting current. So that basically leaves the radio and the battery. Naturally, I'm inclined to think that the battery on such an old radio is the part that's at fault but I'd like to get everyone elses opinion or possibly find another TK-350 owner in the NYC area who can take a good 5 or 10 minutes out of their day so I can borrow a battery to test this thing.

Can you recommend any way to make sure it's the battery and not the radio? If it is the radio and I go out of my way to buy a new battery then I have wasted a good $30+

Battery...probably

If you have a volt meter or even a cheap battery tester you could check the terminals on the battery to see if there's any charge at all getting to the battery. I am talking about the contacts on the battery that make contact with the ones on the radio, not the ones that contact the charger. If there is any voltage at all, I'd say it was the battery.

Perhaps someone nearby uses a radio that also uses that type battery, seek them out and check your radio with their battery.

Your local two way radio shop may have a conditioner for those batteries, they should be able to check it out for you for less $ than a battery, or perhaps they can slap on a new battery for a few seconds to see if its the radio.

Ha! That voltmeter is a good idea! Forgot about that. I can try that out later tonight.

I tried, didn't get very far. For the price of the cells and time and trouble, you can get new packs for not a lot more money. One place is http://www.kendoo.com. You may have to call their 800# to order as online ordering with them has had some issues. They have nicad and NiMH both and chargers if you need extras.

The site referenced is for info only. This is NOT a solicitation or advertisement. I do not have any affiliation with Kendoo. Use at your own risk.

You can get a Ni-CAD battery from www.batteries.com for 25 bucks. I bought two about 6 months ago and they are still holding a good charge with constant usage. This is the cheapest I could find them for and they seem to last a good 18 hours or more on a full charge with transmitting.
