• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just purchased a pristine TK-5220 from the family of a silent key. I would like to reprogram the radio. I have the software and cable, but I have no idea how to change the personal identification or remove the channels that are set up in the radio. All help is greatly appreciated

Correct, ALWAYS read the radio and save that file to a safe place in case something goes sideways.

Read the radio, then make changes to the channels that exist to the newer frequencies you want. Then load that back into your radio.

The software is pretty easy to navigate through. Pick an item you want to change and name here, we'll walk you through it.

If the Kenwood software for that radio is similar to others that I've seen or used, the Help file should be quite useful in getting you going. Load up the software, read the radio, unplug (so you don't accidentally write something you don't want back to the radio) and poke around. Learn by doing. You may find that hovering the cursor here and there will give little help windows. If you put the cursor on a field and click on it, you may or may not be able to change the field by typing. Some require up/down or left/right arrow or page up/down to change. Others, you have have to clear the field before you can type in it. Some you have to hit <enter> before you can edit the field.

You might also search on YouTube. There are a great many instructional videos for radio programming software of all kinds. Even if you don't find one for your exact model, the software for other Kenwood's is generally very, very similar in form and function.
