• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just inherited half a dozen high power TK-890 remote single band single head radios with KCH11 heads to manage for our local ham group. Applying power to the input lead had no effect. On the 9 pin drawer side of the radio there were two wires coming off of it:

Pins 2 & 3 spliced together, manual says BTL Output for Remote Speaker (ES2) and Remote Speaker Switch (RS1)
Pin 6 BLT Output for Remote Speaker (ES1)

Attempted to apply power to Ignition Sense pin 1 (IGN) at the radio with no luck. Then tried applying power to the 12 pin connector on the control head pin 1 (IGN) with no luck. By sheer coincidence I applied ground to pin 3 (EARTH) on the control head and the radio powered up.

Any idea why it would behave like this? Verified both control head cables are firmly seated and the shield wire is connected.

No audio from the 9 pin on the back of the radio and a buzzing sound on the control head pins 10/11 on the 12 pin connector... Thoughts?

I've looked extensively thru the service manual, no mention of buzzing on the speaker output of the remote 12 pin connector :)

The 890 ( and whole x90 mobile series) has 2 audio amps in it, they can be accessed by the 9 pin molex on the radio itself. Pins 2 and 6 are the 5 watt audio amp output and pins 7 and 8 are the 15 watt audio amp, do not ground either side of the speaker. To use the internal speaker of the control head (if you have teh KCH-10) then pins 3 and 6 on the 9 pin molex should be jumpered. If these don't work, you may have a problem with the radio.
