I have a 536HP and my county uses Michigan State Police 800 system and also still uses vhf for fire and also the 800 system. I have set tone outs for the vhf system but when I turn on the tone out it does not trip. I also have a 436 that I will hear fire go out (no tone out set up on 436) Why am I not hearing anything on the 536 on tone out

Too many variables to come to a conclusion. Have a read here for a clear understanding on how the feature works

Make sure you put in the correct tone a/b or short a or long b I found this for your area Ottawa County (MI) - The RadioReference Wiki

I made this video years ago.
***Note I don't no longer have both x36hp.
I do have the correct tones entered I wonder if it is because they simulcast on 8

How do you know you have the correct tones? The 536 & 436 have a tone-out search feature. Maybe put the scanner into that mode and monitor what the tones are and compare against what you have (or were given).

I would say it's more or less outdated. When people aren't constantly verifying information themselves, how else is it supposed to stay current?

Your scanner does not do Tone Out when on a trunked system. It has to be on the VHF frequency used for the tone outs and have the correct tone frequencies programmed.
