Tones

I find the stations that I am looking up in the database under "licenses granted" but, although I can find those same stations in other search lists, the tones and other pertinent info are not listed. Can businesses, block the publication of their tones, codes,, etc?

If by "tones" you mean PL/DPL/NAC/RAN/CC/etc., those have never been listed in the FCC license.

Yes, the tones aren't on the license pages but are on the downloads pages. In fact on the download pages, I can't even find the business 'Im looking for even though it is on the license search and I know it is operating.

So just listen CSQ and then decode the code you need for future squelch considerations.

Fairly certain most businesses don't know their own frequency(ies), tones, codes, etc or are even aware that such a resource disseminating such info as Radioreference even exists. Doubtful it's high on their list of concerns unless someone explicitely brings it to their attention

Nor do they care, they just need to push the button on the radio and tell someone about a cleanup in aisle 4. Most of them couldn't name the brand of the radio they use.

That is because RR relies only on contributed information (right or wrong) not the FCC licensing (and why looking at FCC ULS database is a very very good idea). (And as noted but other though, the FCC does not keep track of tones or NAC--the only way to get those is if someone has reported them to RR or measure them yourself.)

ok, so I got "C 69.3" on my scanner read out. If it's there, , I suppose it was auto programmed but I still get a squelch when they transmit.

So.... the signal could be encrypted. To me it sounds like a regular squelch. How can I tell the difference? And why would a simple business with non-sensitive transmissions go to the trouble ?

This makes no sense.
If you post a sound sample of what you are receiving then somebody can tell you if is is a digital signal or something else.
Sometimes digital signals can cause scanners to display false CTCSS when tone search is enabled.

According to the RadioReference Database Administrator Handbook under Data Removal:

Valid and confirmed data of any kind shall never be removed from the database. RadioReference.com does not honor requests to remove information unless required by court order. Exceptions to this policy will only be granted by RR’s President.​

I was able to capture a sound sample but none of the "allowed" attachments extensions are sound files. Does anyone know how to attach a sound sample as nd5y (above) suggested.

It's DMR.

Wow. Thanks so much that you can analyze that from the sound that I sent. So.... then if i bought the dmr update for my bcd325p2 could you say that the update would let me to be able to access this frequency? Or is the signal just identified as dmr signal but is an encryption signal on a dmr ?

That's what DMR sounds like on an analog FM receiver. There is no way to tell if it is encrypted or not without some way to decode it.

If you post the frequcency and location where it was received then maybe somebody that already has a DMR scanner or SDR can tell you if it's encrypted or not.

The likelyhood that someone in my small community might know about this small-use frequency is nil. I will trudge on. This is so frustrating! I need a loan or rent of a DMR scanner (or radio) before I go on.

SDR dongles are ~$25 on Amazon... and the software is free. An SDR dongle will receive DMR without any issues.
