I recently purchased a Uniden BCD996P2 for my mom, as she said they moved from analog to digital. I looked up the frequencies in rr db for Tonkawa and manually entered them into the BCD996P2 but I'm not picking anything up.

Does anyone know if Tonkawa, OK did indeed move to digital, is it part of a trunked system or if the frequencies in the database are accurate?

I've searched the internet but can't find anything indicating it moved to digital. All I find is that the frequencies were recently renewed.

Looking at the DB and is shows as analog:
With the 11K2F3E emissions designator in the license:

So not sure how you have it programmed in the radio it's hard to say why it's not receiving anything.
Try hitting the weather button and see if it is even receiving anything and the issue isn't antenna related.

Thank you for the response. I'll look over the links here shortly.

I did the following to program:

Pressed the Menu button to access the programming menu.

Navigated to Program System and pressed E.

Choose New System and pressed E.

Select the system Conventional and pressed E.

Navigated to Edit Group and press E.

Created a new group by selecting New Group and pressed E.

Navigated to Edit Channel and pressed E.

Selected New Channel and press E.

Entered frequency 154.085 and press E.

After entering the frequency, navigated to Set Audio Type and press E.

Selected CTCSS and pressed E.

Entered the tone frequency 156.7 and press E.

Saved and Exited

Try changing the CTCSS setting to search in case it has changed in the renewal.

You may try 151.4675. Driving to Enid today had a few hits on that frequency in DMR.

DMR Slot 2, CC:1 TG:2. Address they gave came up to a valid Tonkawa address for repeated 911 hangups... The FCC data states for FD and has NXDN designators.. but there are several departments in that area with out the correct designators.

FCC Callsign WSDP493 (TONKAWA, CITY OF) Granted 7/1/2024.

Appreciate the information. I'll see if I can get up there and do some more testing and possibly upgrade the radio to support nxdn. I took a look at all of the active licenses for the city and I do see the emission of 8k30f1e indicating nxdn with the memo attn: fire dept. On one of the licenses.

Thanks again
Happy New Year

I submitted a bunch of updates for Kay County in the last few days. I'm in Arkansas City, KS just to the north of Kay County 3 miles north of the Kansas/Oklahoma border. I have a SDS200, and a BCD260DN with a Comet GP-6NC antenna on a Rohn 25G tower at 40ft.

I did discover that Tonkawa is using DMR (even though their license states they are using NXDN) on 151.4675. The Fire Department is using Slot 1, Talkgroup 1, Police Department is using Slot 2, Talkgroup 2 both using Color Code 1. All other Tonkawa Frequencies have been removed from the DB, best I can tell they are no longer being used.

The only agency using NXDN in Kay County is Blackwell. Both their Police and Fire/EMS Departments are using RAN1 on their respective frequencies.

Kay County Sheriff, and Newkirk Police, Fire/EMS, and Ponca Fire/EMS are on DMR as well. Ponca Police looks to be moving to DMR in the future as their FCC license had the DMR emission designator added the last time it was renewed.

Since the last DB update, Ponca Fire/EMS has moved away from VHF to UHF for dispatch on 453.3375 using DMR. I have yet to discover if the 151.3400 frequency is still in use by Ponca Fire/EMS, it appears to be a repeater co-located with the other 154.1900 repeater that appears to be Tone Out only. I have yet to hear any voice on either channel since I started monitoring about 3 weeks ago.

I see a lot of new stuff on Kay county in the DB. Do you happen to have talkgroup numbers for some of those? DB has them as blank...

Unfortunately I don’t. I’m using a BCD260DN so I just get CC and RAN for the frequency it’s on. I have access to a SDS200 at work, but it’s purposed for other things, so I can’t really used it much for discovery of slots and TG’s.
