Traveling with a scanner

Does anyone know the rules when flying on a commercial airplane when going through security screening will they say anything about having it in your carry on luggage like is it not allowed or is it a prohibited item no help from calling them there has to be something about it somewhere because people do travel to do work with radio communications first time flying
