Troopers 800 Mhz Extenders

Has anyone tried this pair of frequencies lately? I see vehicles w/ the small "coke can" style antenna that appears 800 type. I realize this only works when in proximity of a unit.

I don't know if they are still using those mobile extenders. I use to monitor those freq in the car. If I heard anything on one of them I knew a trooper was close and I had better watch my speed. It saved my butt more than once. Those "coke can" antennas may be an antenna on the AIRS 700-800 meg system.

I have a few trooper friends, I will ask one of them if they still use them, I imagine they do due to the distances from the VHF repeaters they tend to getaway.

I monitor Troop D mostly the Opelika post, I have noticed no matter which post (Opelika, Alex City, and Montgomery) I can hear the dispatcher acknowledge a Montgomery post trooper on the Opelika RX freq but I can't hear the trooper.

About a week ago an Alex City trooper was in a high-speed pursuit from Alex City all the way to Opelika on US 280 until the suspect rammed the trooper's car on a side street in Opelika near the hospital, as the Alex City trooper got closer to Opelika I could hear both sides (trooper & post) I don't think the Trooper changed his radio over to the Opelika Post

A lot of the ALEA units have Motorola APX 7000 & 8000 mobiles with VHF and 700/800 radios on the AIRS system. They only use the AIRS system for local agency interop to my knowledge.
