That's fake news....

That spy plane that you are referring to is part of a treaty that was signed years ago between us and the Russians. In part, US officials (USAF) are inside the plane monitoring what is be done, are planned sorties with designated routes, and copies of ALL materials gathered (video, pictures, audio) are given to the USAF. That's how this so called "Mystery Spy Jet" is allowed to enter the Restricted Air Space...again that's how the "Media" draws us to read that article.

Story is factual. I did not see any thing fake about it. Straightforward information that was presented by NJ.com. Anybody who goes around spouting "fake news" fake news" had better be ready to back up their statements with the real facts. I read a Time article about the plane being over Washington but their story didn't mention Bedminster. Thought it interesting to share. Thanks, ecps92, for your relevant and real opinion.

Not fake news. This was a ballsy pushing of limitations and terms.

Yes, the Open Skies Treaty allows 34 nations to over-fly each other for the purposes of observation and transit, with restrictions only permissible for purposes of flight safety. The issue here was that the Russian Tu-154 had authorization for a certain flight plan. However, in this specific case, as the news left out, the Russians deviated from the filed altitude and several degrees from filed course without permission of ATC or their USAF chaperones creating a flight safety issue. That's where the problem is.

You also have to consider the timing. Russia, which is not happy with sanctions against them or North Korea at the moment, chose these "attractions" completely as a statement. A giant middle finger, muscle flex, to make a point.

My apologies, you are correct. I had confused this article with another website that I was reading at the time. In that article, the story liner was something like "Mystery Russian Jet flies xyz". I replied fake news as the Russian Jet was/is a known flight and the US was fully aware of the mission. Therefore, in my eyes, thus flight is not considered a "Mysterious Flight". I misspoke on this particular article by NJ.Com.

No worries. It's easy to confuse stories like this with illegal Russian incursions that have happened numerous times over recent years. Though those have been with Tu-95 Bears and MiG-35 Fulcrums, not surveillance aircraft, and have been mostly over the west coast and Unalaska.

can you give more info? what kind of plane? what approx altitude? the aerial refuel tanker is doing loops over the entire metro area...at 24,000 feet, this plane supplies the f-16's are on combat air patrol enforcing the flight restrictions over bedminster. ...also, POTUS marine one flew right over my home in basking ridge yesterday around 230 pm. , on route to bedminster

There was a plane at 4500 ft a little while ago. ADSB showed it in tight orbit around Bedminster area. Wasn't sure if they were using 260.9 or what.
