Getting some talking now and then but can' t under stand it . still can't get the tupe to change no matter what I have had the scanner to where it sayes nothing to scan still can't change the type. I really should not be that hard. Did anyone else here in Utah have this much trouble?
Thanks

See post #6...I will add seeing you are having garbled transmissions and ASSUMING what you want to monitor is not encrypted. You have 3 options....
1) buy a UNiden SDS series scanner as thEY are the only scanners that have hardware in them to deal with simulcast. ThE cost is $649 new

2) get a RTL-SDR recive and repurpose a old PC..use sdrtrunk ( free software) Cos is abut $31 plus a good antenna.

3) Remove the antenna and try a paperclip on the TRX. YMMV

Did you delete the system and add it again as was earlier suggested? Keep in mind, you are monitoring a simulcast system and that scanner is not designed to receive simulcast transmissions, so depending on your location in relation to the towers you may not get good reception.

Speaking of good reception what is a good antenna I'm sure the thin 800 MHz not the best would the one that the scanner work better or is the a better one. I live up in Holliday for those from salt lake and in the 6200 south area, so it might be to close to the mountains. My sons said this system is not very good once they go into a build they loose reception also, and lose contact with their base.
.thanks again

Until you get it programmed as a P25 system instead of a Motorola type 2, no antenna will make any difference.

I looked at the state of Utah and city of Salt Lake city and all the info is there to program the TRX-1 for that area. I think the scanner needs to setup correctly before we just blame the simulcast system.

After looking over the Utah Communications Authority P-25 system in Salt Lake City. The Whistler SW was never finished. There are no talkgroups listed that he wants to listen to. Looking at the RR info it shows all the TG's he wants. He would have to build the system manually in the Whistler SW. The control channels are ok, but the build out was never finished with all the TG's.
He could just add a Wildcard to the TG's and see what he receives.

Give this file a try. Open with TRX-1 EZ Scan. Please let me know which conventional frequencies you would like.

Thank you very much for the file, it worked about like the one I have installed, but maybe a little more action but still can not under stand the talking. Maybe I am expect ion to much like I say my sons say once they go into a build the lose the command station can't under stand why they would change to a system that would place people into life safety issues.
again thanks for the file

You can't compare your scanner reception with their radios, not to remind you your scanner does not work well on simulcast. As for their radios, the building materials used in commercial structures make it hard in many cases which is why many departments have simplex TAC channels to communicate.

Yeah, I guess I was just kind of expected to be like it’s been on the Motorola system and simulcast it worked great there. Oh well kind of disappointed thanks guys for all your help.
Your options are basically a Motorola, a Unication pager, a SDS scanner, or a SDR dongle and software. Sorry you purchased something not intended for the system in your area.

Garbled audio is a symptom of simulcast distortion. The only scanners specifically designed to receive simulcast sites are the Uniden SDS100 and SDS200. Try turning on the attenuator. With simulcast sites, less signal is more. Lay the scanner on its back and rotate it 360 degrees. Try moving the scanner around the room. You may find a sweet spot where it works. If you take the scanner out for a drive, I bet you will find some locations that work OK. If you are close to a tower, the signal can override the out of phase interference from the other towers.
