I purchased a TRX-2 brand new a couple of days ago and have been having SD card issues with it from the beginning. After turning it on and off a few times, I get an error 3-01 which I'm not able to get past until I reformat and re-prepare the card. This will work for a few cycles and repeat. I purchased a new 16 GB SD card in case the stock card was bad, but after preparing it the same exact way I prepared the stock card multiple times, I am unable to get past the 3-01 error with it. The stock card will work, however. I'm sorta stumped and don't know where to go from here. Any advice? Thanks.

The scanners are very particular about SD cards, and they ship them with some iffy cards to begin with.

Here's a thread with some decent options: http://forums.radioreference.com/whistler-scanners/334145-supported-sd-cards-whistler-scanners.html

Try getting one of the cards others have had success with. If that doesn't work, I would get that sucker returned while you still can. Or, go ahead and return it now. At some point they need to learn a lesson for being so cheap on the microSD cards.

You will also corrupt a SD card by loosing power to the scanner while it is turned on.
#1. If you are using a TRX-2 at home buy a UPS.
#2. If you are using it in your car you may want to power off the scanner before you start your car.
Other than this I have no corrupted my TRX-2 SD card but hey I have 2 2200 watt UPS units running my PC's and all my scanners at home.

SD and PC

Perhaps try programming your SD card using a SD card reader and try on someone else's computer to see if you may have an issue with your computer,A brand new TRX2 with this issue is odd.If it works, you know you have PC issues. If it doesnt, then you need to return the TRX2 and get a new one.Do you have any antivirus? You may want to run a full scan and set it for paranoid and see if you have a little friend messsing up you data transfers......I doubt you need a UPS,unless theres bad weather every day.

Take the card out of the scanner and program it that way. I had the same issues and when I did this I was able to program it without further issue.

You may also pick up a scan disk micro 32gb card and use that with your scanner, as I have successfully programed and currently using this style card with my trx 2.

I bought a backup generator to prevent my 536 microSD card from corrupting. It's 50 KW. Kinda expensive, but it keeps my scanner going. I wouldn't expect a $700 scanner to handle a power surge, hard boot, or power loss without corrupting. Spending $20,000 to baby my scanner was well worth it.

In all seriousness though, my WS1080 fails often on power glitches and when the USB cable is unplugged. Even when I crank the truck sometimes. This is incredibly undesirable since it can cause me to miss what caused a power outage. This was before I got my generator, of course. Now I have a new generator, a new computer dedicated only to connecting to my Whistler, and batteries that I always charge outside the scanner. And a new case on the way.

And if you believe that, I've got a beautiful ocean front property in Arizona I'll sell you along with a new microSD card.

This really is a function of a poor design on Whistlers part. The scanner has an internal battery as seen when using the USB cable and this could be used to finish any writing to the SD card when the power is removed. Another and probably better option is to change the way the software reads and writes to the disk.

I bought this scanner specifically for the remote head feature to install in my daily driver. I could wire it to the battery instead of the ignition but what is going to happen when I start the car with the scanner on which will happen anytime I am making multiple stops? Do I really need to install a second battery and charger combiner like the Mountain West Super PWRgate PG40S because of poorly written software?

I did try using a Scandisk Ultra 32gig SD card and it definitely is better than the OEM card; when you lose power and turn on the scanner you get the following messages: "Init SD FileSys XX%", followed by "Verifying Data" and then "Bandplan USA press SEL to set" at which point it finally gives you the option to scan.

After Uniden's experience with the rough roll out of the BCD-x36 radios I (which I own as well) I expected more from Whistler.

Hopefully Wendy will be able to tell us that a new software version will fix this. Until then, these scanners are really not practical for mobile installations.

I already have it on a UPS, so I'm covered in that aspect. :)

I was using a class 10 16 GB SD card which always gave me the 3-01 error. I've replaced it with a class 4 16 GB card which seems to be working just fine. Thanks for all the help!
