Tomorrow is a big milestone for the Raleigh/Wake Emergency Communications Center.

Tomorrow RWECC 911 will be moving their operations from Hargett St.
to the new Central Communications Center on May 3rd, beginning at 0630.
This is a significant undertaking as all of the components of their operations have to make the transition to the new facility.

One component of this transition is the radio system, RWECC aligned the
P25 upgrade with their move to maximize efficiencies, and minimize costs.
This move affects the WSO Communications and the NCSU PS Communications centers as well.

Every effort has been taken to minimize the impact to Wake Public Safety during the radio transition phase of this cutover. As a reminder as a backup there is a Zone in every radio that is available for radio communications using pre-designated VIPER channels – the Zone is labeled as VWC.

Below is a high level sequence of events that should occur as part of this move.

0400-0600 Technicians will be on site at Communications Centers and
various tower sites to begin setup and system checks.
0600-0700 Begin transferring partial 4.1 system resources over to P25
System. The 4.1 system will remain operational during this time.

During this period if there is a lot of radio traffic, users in the field may experience system busies – this is not expected to be a significant issue however.

0715-0745 Once go ahead received that Phone system has been transferred
and is operational – the 4.1 system will be shut off, the system
connections will be transferred over to the P25 system, which will
assume control of the radio network.

During this period, the “out of range” indication may also appear depending on the radios location because the radio sites going off the air momentarily to associate with the new P25 system. Note: The new Site ID for Wake Simulcast will be will be 10; Fuquay will be 11; Briar Creek will be 12.

Also - during this period is when the radio users in the field may experience instances of “fail-soft” or “Site Trunking”. This will occur because the radios need to associate themselves with the new P25 system.

0745-1000 Test status of other components of the various communications
centers for proper operation.

The technicians will remain at the various locations until about 1300 or as needed to ensure that all functions are operating properly.

As we obtain more info it will be posted.
Congratulations to all of the RWECC folks as they move into their new home.
