One more thing...did you rename the datadump.cgi file to datadump.csv or save it as a csv file after opening it in Excel?

How are you trying to import the contacts...Program>Write Contacts>Import>Write...don't use the Digital Contacts tab in the left menu window.
Joe
I'm using the Write Contacts option in the menu bar of the program. It opens a new window where I select import option. I point to the csv file when it prompts me to, and that's when I get the "Excel Fail" error.
When I downloaded the data dump file, it was already in a csv format. I didn't need to change the suffix. When I opened it with Excel and re-saved it, I made sure it had the .csv suffix. In both instances, the file name was datadump.csv.
Repoman, go back into your contacts file or a fresh dump file in Excel (make sure you choose comma delimited if the import wizard opens) and delete/add columns to leave, in this exact order, these columns...Radio ID/Call Sign/Name/NickName/City/State/Country then save the file as a CSV file. Try loading this file up and see if it works.
Joe
Joe,
Thanks for the input.
I've tried downloading the database from DMR MARC on a PC and on a Mac. When you download the file on a PC, the file is saved on the computer as datadump.cgi. When you download on a Mac, it's automatically named/saved as datadump.csv. On the PC version, I changed the suffix to .csv without opening or altering the file and it still fails to import. When I examine the contents of either version in Excel, I see 7 columns of data: Radio ID, Callsign, Name, City, State, Country and Remarks. One thing to note, all of the data in the 7th column (the remarks column) has <br/> behind the data in each box in the entire column. I'm not sure if this line break is what's causing the problem. You also didn't mention the Remarks column - but you DID mention Nickname (which is not in the datadump database). BTW, I tried deleting the Remarks column altogether but that didn't work, either.
I think you're reading too much into my instructions. If you export an empty contacts list from the programming software, you will be able to see the exact format the radio is looking for to work correctly. My contacts list is too large to be sent via this forum. If you want to PM me your email address I can email you my contacts list that was created from this morning's datadump. If it still doesn't work, something else is wrong.
Joe
Joe,
I exported the .csv file from the CPS. I had to insert the NickName column and delete the Remarks column from the database. Once that was done, the formats matched. Unfortunately, even though the formats were identical, it still failed.
I sent you a PM with my email address. I'd like to try a working version of the .csv file so I can better pinpoint the problem.
What version of the CPS are you using? I'm using the most recent (v1.17) along with the most recent firmware for the radio (v3.36 for 100,000 contacts, which shows in the radio as 3.036). I'm wondering if radio firmware might have something to do with this...
Thanks again.
I'm also using v1.17 of the CPS software. My radio is GPS and I have the latest firmware, P3.38. There was a hiccup with the first version of v3.35 firmware, but that was quickly fixed. Remember that after you successfully get the contacts list loaded, you'll also need to go into the radios settings and turn on the ContactsCSV option.

The instructions are not real clear but the error you are getting is because you don't have Microsoft excel installed on your system. You must have Microsoft (Not Open office) installed because you will get this error
Most people are finding this out now. The lastest version of the CPS is V1.17 and there are two versions of the firmware both 3.36 one is the 100,000 contact version the other is the 10,000 digital contact version, You must use the flash utility V3.04 to flash the firmware, software can be downloaded directly from TYT. Make sure that once you flash the firmware from the radio menu>utilities>radio setting>Contact CSV and enable it before importing the CSV file QSL? If you do not see this option then you are on the wrong firmware.
Repoman said he was using MS Excel earlier in this thread.

Hello, I just received my MD-2017 and in VFO mode I can not find the way to switch from analog to digital, can you help me? Thanks.

WTF many people like me have no MS Office licence and would not buy an for.I installed Office and I am now able to import the full contacts database.
